Auction May 18, 2012 in Boston Paintings auctions at Skinner attract buyers from around the world and consistently achieve world record prices. The May auction will offer a broad spectrum of paintings and sculpture, including the works featured here plus two paintings by Victor Vasarely, landscapes by Hermann Herzog and John Frederick Tennant, portraits by Eugène Louis Lami and Allan Ramsay, and a kinetic sculpture by Pol Bury, to name just a few. Description: Josef Albers (German/American, 1888-1976) Two Images: DR-a and DR-b, 1968, editions of 100 plus proofs, published by Galerie Denise René, Paris (Danilowitz, 180 & 181). Both monogrammed and dated "JA'68" in pencil l.r., numbered and titled in pencil l.r., publisher's dry stamp l.l., and identified on a label from Graphics 1 and Graphics 2, Boston, on the backing. Color screenprints on paper, image sizes 23 1/2 x 23 5/8 in. (59.5 x 65.0 cm), shrink-wrapped. Condition: Not examined out of wrap.

Condition Report: The screenprints were not removed from their shrink wrap. DR b (green/blue) is numbered "77/100" and has a small dent measuring 1/8 inch located at edge of blue band u.l. quadrant, 3 1/2 inches down from the top and 5 inches in from the left edge. DR a (orange/red) is numbered "...5/100" (most likely 95/100, although the first digit is not completely clear and may be read as a 7), and has a small dog ear crease at l.l. corner. Both images measure 23 5/8 x 23 5/8 inches and both sheets measure 26 3/4 x 26 3/4 inches.
