Description: A Scottish mounted ram's horn snuff mull, unmarked, early 19th century, the cover hinge formed as a thistle, an oval plate engraved 'WR', the collar engraved 'William Ritchie 1820', 10cm (4in) long Contenders for the ownership include the William Ritchie who arrived in Belfast in 1791. He provided the impetus for the development of the shipbuilding industry in that city, having brought from his existing shipyard in Saltcoats, Ayrshire, ten men and a quantity of materials to set up business in Belfast. By 1820 at least two shipbuilding firms were operating on the banks at the mouth of the River Lagan, William Ritchie's and another belonging to his brother Hugh. Another William Ritchie (1781-1831) was a Scottish lawyer, journalist and newspaper owner.

Description: A French silver desk seal by Louis Baudet, Paris, small article mark for .950 standard, circa 1900, the rounded handle embossed with floral swags, a wreathed reserve and foliage, engraved 'Jeanne a Joseph 19 Mars 1901', the circular silver matrix with a 'J' cypher, 8.3cm (3 1/4in) long; and a German silver desk seal by Wilhelm Binder, Schwabisch Gmund, post 1886 .835 standard, circa 1900, the tapered hexagonal handled with ribs, the oval silver matrix with an armorial, 7cm (2 3/4in) long The second with what appears to be the untraced arms of an untitled German nobleman, probably newly elevated to that status.
