For approximately 40 years, the Julia firm has been known for handling some of the finest quality items, collections, and estates available. Description: Classic French character figure with papier mache head with big chin and nose, molded and painted features, on horse hair stuffed body with protruding hump on back and in front of chest also made of papier mache. He is traditionally dressed in alternating panels of color with blue and white fringe dangling from sleeves, ankles, waist, neck and hat. There are bells on both sides of the hat. As is typical, there is a string dangling from his hat and when pulled his arms move up and down in a puppet like form. SIZE: 18" (46cm) to top of hat. Description: Distinctive doll from the 1880s by Jumeau with character-like face, slightly flat chin with dimple, mauve shading on upper eyelids and well painted mouth with illusion of white space between the lips. The quality of the bisque is excellent and has applied pierced ears. Incised on back of head "EJ A 10". French wood and composition body has eight separate ball joints, straight wrists and is stamped on the torso "Jumeau Medaille D'or Paris". She has been well re-costumed in a one piece drop waist dress of various shades of blue with a midnight blue velvet sash and trim collar with a well coordinated hat with wire frame. The wig is antique blond mohair over cork pate and the brown leather shoes are stamped on the soles "12 Paris Depose". SIZE: 25" (64cm). CONDITION: Overall very good with some slight typical paint wear to body especially at joints and fingertips. Eyes have been reset and are possible replacements. 1-11728

Description: A very pretty Tete with bulbous blue paperweight eyes, pale and a finely detailed and sculpted closed mouth on a marked Jumeau body with straight wrists (some over painting to lower arms). She is wearing a very elaborate white silk gown with a prolific amount of lace trim as well as a matching hat. Shoes are marked "Paris Depose" with the "B" symbol on the sole. Retains her original cork pate and blond mohair wig. SIZE: 20" (50cm). CONDITION: Body has minimal wear, most noticeable at the joints. Faint hairline extending from crown/chip into outside corner of left eye. Hairline is present, but with wig in place it is not noticeable. 1-12104

He is on a five piece bent limb composition body and wears a red and white crocheted costume with matching night cap and is accompanied by a pair of leather boxing gloves. Description: Fine mid-18th Century doll with gesso covered and painted head, lower arms and legs with one piece head and torso having black pupiless glass eyes, long swan-like neck, finely carved nose, chin and ears. Long single arched eyebrow with short multi-stroke brows, both above and below brow line. Doll is jointed at the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees with detail articulation at the elbows to allow greater movement than is normally found with this type of doll. She has elongated separately carved fingers with all paint surfaces appearing to be original. Costume is a two piece gold silk with long train in back with open front showing corset which accents the narrow waist. Wig is upswept brown human hair with a lacy mop cap with wire frame. Undergarments are quilted linen and the pointed slippers are green and gold antique brocade. SIZE: 24" (61cm) to top of wig. CONDITION: Although having some paint wear on forehead, nose tip and upper lip, the condition is remarkable considering the doll is approximately 250 years old. 1-11921

Description: Believed to be circa late 18th Century, this primitive looking table has raised panel top, curved legs, fancy carved curved stretchers, terminating in bun feet reminiscent of William & Mary style of furniture. Single drawer has what appears to be its original and very unusual pulls and brass escutcheon. Decoupaged around exterior with garden scenes. SIZE: 11" l x 7-1/2" h x 6" d. CONDITION: Overall generally good, appearing to have some minor repairs to stretchers. Bun feet are either repainted or a later addition. Standing atop a velvet base impressed with a leaf design, she is attired in an elaborate polished silk gown with a leaf motif impressed upon her bodice. Blue paperweight eyes, pale bisque and her original blond mohair wig finish the package. Included is a glass dome with an ebonized wooden base. SIZE: 18" t. Description: Various character Jumeau heads were often employed with different themes for makers of automata. This particular example features a crying, screaming girl due to the fact that she has dropped her doll and the head is loose or broken off. When activated, the music plays, the crying girl looks from left to right while raising her one hand with the hankie to wipe her eyes and then raising the second hand with the detached head of her baby doll. Perched upon a velvet covered base, the young girl has been redressed in a period style outfit with a replacement blond human hair wig. The head marked with "211" on the back, exposed upper teeth and tongue and squinty blue paperweight eyes. SIZE: Overall 22" t. CONDITION: Excellent working condition. Right bisque arm appears to have an aged repair. Minute eye flake on lower rim of left eye. 1-11917

Description: American doll made for the Columbian Exposition in 1893 by the Adams' sisters of Oswego, New York. She has molded and painted head and shoulders, cloth body which is jointed at the shoulders, hips and knees and with a slight covering of paint on the lower arms and legs. The clothing is all at least of the period if not original and consists of a printed cotton dress covered by a nice linen ribbed overcoat and a cotton and lace sun bonnet which complements the overcoat nicely. Description: Pale bisque socket head with spectacular light blue eyes on separate bisque shoulder plate with wooden body with torso and upper legs covered in white kid leather having wooden lower arms and legs. Head is incised "2" and if the shoulder plate is marked it is covered by the white kid leather. She wears the original blond mohair wig over cork pate, nice antique brown leather boots and has been well re-costumed in a pink brocade silk two piece walking costume with lace trim. There is a replacement hat that matches the costume well as well as an antique bonnet with cloth flowers and antique lace decoration in back. SIZE: 16" (41cm). CONDITION: Overall very good with some wear and light repaint to arms and some discoloration to kid, especially on torso. Very minor speckling on cheeks. 1-11926

Description: 1910 era ensemble with one complete doll and three additional heads, three being painted eye character faces and the other an open mouth, sleep eyed "dolly face" head. The head on the complete doll is incised "178"; the other painted eye heads are unmarked however the smiling face is the "185" mold and the somber face boy is the "184" mold. The open mouth head has brown glass sleep eyes is incised "Made in Germany 174". All four heads have their original mohair wigs; the complete doll has the original body with original finish although somewhat discolored. The chemise on the complete doll is factory issued and wears period two tone leather shoes, although the same vintage as the doll, may have been added later. All is contained in the original red box with the paper label bearing the Kestner crown mark and "Charakterpuppe No. 3439". SIZE: 11" (28cm). CONDITION: Very good to excellent with some separation at the corners of the box. 1-11678

Description: Attractive doll with unusual expression with head incised "7" on original eight ball joint wood and composition body with straight wrists and stamped in blue "Jumeau Medaille D'or Paris". She has large brown paperweight eyes, closed mouth with slight space between the lips and mauve shading on upper eyelids. The antique costume is a sleeveless cotton print dress which ties in back with a large bow; shoes are antique white leather with a "5" impressed on the soles and the wig is antique blond mohair over the original cork pate. In addition she has a newer red felt coat with embroidered flowers and matching hat. SIZE: 15-1/2" (39cm). CONDITION: Slight old faint hairline on top center of forehead; few minor rubs on left cheek and some general light overpaint to most of body with more to the lower arms. Although the head is attached to the body by the original coil spring, the head does not seem to want to turn in the socket. 1-11628

Although incised with nothing other than "5" this doll is unquestionably from the Jules Steiner firm and has all the characteristics of a so-called "Series A Bebe". Her well defined upper lip is what makes one think that she could be from this Series as well as her well modeled ears, small eye cut with blue-gray paperweight eyes and nicely painted eyelashes and eyebrows. Body is also typical Steiner although the hands have an unusual and more well defined shape than normally found on this period doll. She has been simply but appropriately redressed in a long white robe type off-white dress with cut out design and her antique camel colored leather shoes and a replacement cork pate and cut down brown human hair wig. PLEASE NOTE: Tiny fleck on eye lid appears to have been done during manufacturing. A microscopic loss on the other eye also. SIZE: 27" (67cm). CONDITION: Very good. Body retains original finish. 1-11622

The costume is an extremely well made replica of an authentic Jumeau sailor costume made of fine cotton and lace with intricate feather stitching on collar. In addition she has an elaborate antique brown mohair wig with long extensions over the original cork pate. SIZE: 19" (48cm). CONDITION: Overall very good; slight paint wear on fingers, slight paint retouch on right leg and two minor raised blemishes in the bisque on the right cheek. 1-11726

The fully jointed wood and composition body has fine original finish and she is dressed in a pale blue gauze pleated factory dress with wide collar, antique undergarments, socks and black oil cloth shoes. The wig is soft dark human hair, parted in center with a blue silk bow matching the dress. She comes in the remnants of the cardboard store box; lacking lid. SIZE: 17" (43cm). Description: Unmarked bisque socket head, separate bisque shoulder with dark blue bulging glass eyes, well modeled nose, chin and highlighted lips, pierced ears and mounted to gusseted leather body with kid over metal upper arms and long bisque forearms. In addition she has jointed knees with kid over wood lower legs. She wears a two piece blue taffeta dress with narrow waist, off the shoulder jacket with lace trim, red French leather fashion boots and the original dark blond mohair fashion wig over cork pate. Description: Also known as the "Nursing Bru" the doll has an open mouth with space to allow a baby bottle to enter. She has lovely brown paperweight eyes and has a separate bisque shoulder plate on a gusseted leather child body with bisque forearms. The mechanism inside the head to allow the baby to nurse is rubber and has hardened with age and is no longer operable. She has the remnants of an original sheepskin wig over cork pate and long cotton baby dress; could very well be original however is deteriorating. Tied to her left arm is an antique glass baby bottle with ivory colored pacifier. SIZE: 17" (43cm). CONDITION: Head has old restoration; a piece previously broken and glued is now obvious. Description: Bisque head incised "8" and is on the original fully jointed body with straight wrists and eight separate ball joints and stamped on the torso in blue "Jumeau Medaille D'or Paris". This wide eye doll has some characteristics of the Second Series Portrait Jumeau and somewhat resembles an "EJ Bebe". The eyes are undoubtedly her most outstanding feature as well as her pierced ears, softly painted facial features and gentle expression. She wears an antique pink silk print costume with oversized collar and trimmed in fine lace, antique French leather shoes impressed on the soles "8 C.C.", a short antique dark blond mohair wig and a fancy lace and straw bonnet with high wire frame which seems to match the fabric in the dress. Cheek color is even with nice contrast between cheeks and the rest of the face. She is on her original body with straight wrists jointed at elbows, shoulders, hips and knees. Description: Circa 1880. Lovely doll house is painted in cream with salmon accents. Roof is lithographed paper simulating blue shingles. Has two brick chimneys with three dormer windows. Center doorway leads to balcony, which is flanked on either side by two double windows. Painted center door with ormolu door knocker and metal handle, flanked by two double windows. House also has simulated coining and opens to reveal two lower rooms and hallway. Kitchen has its original shelving and its original stove. Upper level is one large room. Top of mansard roof reveals two additional rooms with dividing wall. All rooms appear to have original wall paper. SIZE: House measures 30" h x 25-3/4" w x 12-3/4" d. Upper room measures 23" w x 8-1/2" h x 10-3/4" d. Kitchen measures 8-1/2" w x 9-1/4" h x 10-3/4" d. Living room measures 9" w x 10-3/4" d x 9-1/4" h. CONDITION: Overall very good plus with some flaking to paint, most notably to wood trim. Balcony appears to have had some paint touch-up or enhancement. The left rear bottom and right sides of house have some paint disintegration and discoloration. House has typical splitting of wood in various places. Reminiscent of a very early automotive horseless carriage, side doors gain entrance to the passenger compartment, which also has a fold down leather canopy for inclement weather. Celluloid tag at rear of carriage indicates maker mentioned above with a metal handle for the young lady to push the carriage. Metal spoke wheels with thin rubber tires with spring suspension. She has lovely brown paperweight eyes with almond shaped eye cuts, has a full soft mouth with pronounced dimple in chin with well painted lashes and feathered eyebrows. She is on her original French wood and composition straight wrist body with eight separate ball joints and although unmarked it has a unique shape to the hands that is found solely on this particular doll. Costume consists of an antique cotton and silk dress with intricate lace interwoven into the pattern. Shoes are antique although were probably original children's leather shoes. Wig is a replacement auburn human hair wig, however matches the color of the eyebrows nicely. SIZE: 26" (66cm). All while she looks about the room with her amber paperweight eyes and closed mouth. Typical fine bisque quality of Jumeau was usually the choice for makers of automatons. With the velvet covered base the young lady is redressed in lovely black gown with burgundy inset front panel. SIZE: 18" t. Description: This bisque head is stamped in red "Depose Tete Jumeau 7" with a fully jointed wood and composition body stamped in blue on the torso "Bebe Jumeau Bte S.G.D.G. Depose". The head is finely painted with full red lips, multi-stroke eyelashes, well painted and evenly arched eyebrows with nice rosy cheeks and pierced ears. Body retains its original finish, however has some typical paint flaking especially on a few finger tips and lower legs. Body is strung in the conventional manner however does not have a coil spring. She is dressed in a one piece costume of dark tan linen with red feather stitching. Extremely dark human hair wig is most likely original and covers the original cork pate.
