The Leam Bridge, County Galway, watercolour, signed lower left, 25.5 x 36.5 cm (10 x 14.5 ins), framed and glazed Douglas Alexander (1871-1945) was born in Limerick, and specialised in oil and watercolour views in the West of Ireland, especially Connemara. The Leam Bridge became famous as one of the locations for the film The Quiet Man, directed by John Ford, and starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara, and is today better known as the Quiet Man bridge. She had instruction from Mr. Craig, the miniature painter and in 1821 was awarded a medal by the Society of Arts. (2)
