Description: Neue europaische Graphik. Erste Mappe - Meister des staatlichen Bauhauses in weimar. Muller Verlag, Potsdam 1921 Peters 1-14 HDO 101-1 - Number Vil of the deluxe edition of 10 portfolios; the total edition consisted of 110 numbered copies. With 4 original woodcuts, 2original etchings and 8 original lithographs partly printed in colour some hand-coloured. On various papers, each individually mounted in passepartouts 56,7 x 45,2 cm. With a title page, a table of con- tents; a printer's note mounted onto the inside back cover; this bears the handwritten number of the copy "Vil" in blue ink. Contrary to the printer's note in the original half vellum portfolio 57,5 x 46cm. Well-preserved apart from minimal traces of wear on the inside of the portfolio and minimal spots on the individual passepartouts. The first - and also the most important - of the four published Bauhaus portfolios contains woodcuts, etchings and lithographs by 7 Bauhaus masters, each of whom was permitted to contribute 2 works in the same medium. It brings together woodcuts by Lyonel Feininger and Gerhard Marcks, etchings by Georg Muche and for the most part colourprinted or watercoloured lithographs by Johannes Itten, Paul Klee, Oskar Schlemmer and Lothar Schreyer. Printed and presented to the very highest artistic standards at the Bauhaus workshops in Weimar. Complete copies of this first portfolio are very rare. E300000-350000 21 21
