After Army service in World War II, Adams studied at the Art Students League during 1919 and 1920, and in the summers he was learning modernist methods from Andrew Dasburg in Woodstock. The after two years of work and study in France and Italy, Adams followed the advice of Dasburg and settled in Taos in 1924. He began a friendship with Walter Ufer by virtue of a letter of introduction, which eventually cemented his addition as the youngest member of the Society of Taos Artists. His painting style owed much to the roots of Modernism. He was absorbed in the lessons of Cézanne and early cubism, yet his style still remained uniquely his own, with a directness and simplicity reminiscent of the great Mexican muralists whom he also greatly admired. Teaching for the University of New Mexico in Taos eventually led to a full-time position in the art department at the UNM campus in Albuquerque.~SLR~signed lower right: Kenneth M.
