Description: Tartanware binding. Tartans of the Clans and Families of Scotland, pub. William & Andrew Smith, Mauchline, Ayrshire, c. 1855, title and list of contents, sixty-nine colour-printed tartan patterns mounted to rectos only, upper margin of plate 64 torn and repaired (not affecting tartan), pages somewhat curled due to adhesive shrinkage, a.e.g., orig. papier maché Tartanware boards (Stuart tartan), orig. leather backstrip, skilfully restored, small 8vo (140 x 102mm). The bright tartan designs were printed on the Smith's patented tartan Ruling Machine. This edition is very scarce and only two other copies are known, one in the British Library and the other in private ownership. See: Journal of the Mauchline Ware Collectors Club, no. 28, April 1995.
