On Sep 9, 1963, Cronkite's program became the first half-hour weeknight network news broadcast. By the end of the 1960s, Cronkite's avuncular presence and gravitas would catapult the show to the number one spot and earn him the moniker, 'The Most Trusted Man in America.'
