VAN DER KEUKEN, JOAN. Achter Glas [Behind Glass].

Lot 31: VAN DER KEUKEN, JOAN. Achter Glas [Behind Glass].

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: VAN DER KEUKEN, JOAN. Achter Glas [Behind Glass]. Text by Remco Campert. Illustrated with gravure reproductions of van der Keuken's photographs of adolescence. Tall 4to, gilt-lettered linen; photo-pictorial dust jacket, lightly edgeworn with small tears to top edge of front panel (inexpert repairs on verso). Parr/Badger I 244; Auer 372. first edition. Amsterdam: Uitgeverij C. de Boer Jr., (1957)

Condition Report: This rare first edition of Van der Keuken's "Achter Glas" is in overall very good condition. The dust jacket evidences a repaired area of loss near the center of the top edge of the front panel (this small area, approximately 3/4 of an inch square, appears to have become detached then repaired on verso), as well as a small tear near the left corner. Overall, the extreme edges of the dust jacket are slightly worn, and there is a small amount of chipping to the head of the spine. The internal front flap also shows a long vertical crease. The head and tail of the spine and the top corners of the folds for the internal flaps have been reinforced on verso. The rear panel, which is cream colored, evidences slight overall soiling. The gilt-lettered linen is in overall very good condition. Internally, the volume is overall bright and clean with gravure reprodutions. There is light discoloration to the front and rear free endpapers, and a fainter band of discoloration near the gutter of the half-title. The edges of the pages are just slightly age-darkened, and the text block is very slightly tender. None of these condition issues detract from the overall strength of the book. All items are offered for sale subject to Swann Galleries' standard terms and conditions of sale, which are published in our catalogues.
