Description: Allingham (William). The Music Master, A Love Story. And Two Series of Day and Night Songs, 1st ed., 1855, nine b&w wood eng. illusts. by Arthur Hughes, D. G. Rossetti, and J. E. Millais, single pubs. ad. leaf at rear, additional etched illustration of Nathaniel Bentley, Hardware Man of Leadenhall Street by I. Mills bound in to face the poem entitled The Dirty Old Man, a Lay of Leadenhall at page 41, later gilt-dec. red crushed morocco (by Gaz), joints rubbed, and one or two minor marks, small 8vo. 'Rare and important' (Forrest Reid, Illustrators of the Eighteen Sixties, p. 33). The first book to contain an illustration by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. With autograph signed by William Allingham to Mrs Conway, declining an invitation to Harley Street, tipped-in to front endpaper. (1)
