MIKHAIL LARIONOV - Autograph letter signed

Lot 928: MIKHAIL LARIONOV - Autograph letter signed

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Mikhail Larionov (Russian, 1881 - 1964). "L'Art Theatral Moderne, Letter #3". Autograph letter signed. 1953. Provenance: Bloomsbury Auctions, London. Letters by Larionov are rarely seen on the market. This is an important letter again relating to the Gontcharova/Larionov 1919 album. Autograph letter signed "M. Larionov" with a postscript initialed "M.L." Written in French, dated January 9, 1953, to Ifan Kyrle Fletcher (in London?). Double-sided 2 pp. 4to (10 1/2 x 8 1/4 in.). Complete English translation as follows: "I wish you and Mrs. Fletcher a Happy New Year. It has been a long time since I have had news from you. You planned to visit Paris September 23 and 24 and visiting me at my place but something probably came up. I fear it may be your health. Gontcharova and I send you and Mrs. Fletcher our regards and wish you the best. We will be very happy if you can come and visit us in Paris soon. T.S.V.P. (Turn page please). P.S. Are you interested in more of the Gontcharova and Larionov albums like those three you bought in London? I found some at the editor's widow's house. The ones she has are not complete, two of my plates on yellow paper are missing, The Mask and Dance Scale. It's because of this that she has not sold them yet. But at my place I have found four of these plates separately and I can complete the two albums. I can also make the missing plates for the others. This way the albums will be complete. Please tell me if these albums interest you. They are numbered and belong to the 100-album deluxe edition.". [21589] |500| {R100}

MIKHAIL LARIONOV - Autograph letter signed

Lot 929: MIKHAIL LARIONOV - Autograph letter signed

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Mikhail Larionov (Russian, 1881 - 1964). "Paris Painters' Balls, Letter #1". Autograph letter signed. 1951. Provenance: Bloomsbury Auctions, London. Letters by Larionov are rarely seen on the market. This is an important letter relating to the Russian ball programs of the 1920s. Autograph letter (in another hand) signed "M. Larionov." Written in French, dated October 10, 1951, from Larionov address of 16 Rue Jacques Callot, Paris, 6th to Ifan Kyrle Fletcher (in London?). Single-sided 1 p. 4to (10 1/2 x 8 1/4 in). Complete English translation as follows: "Thank you very much for the prospectus of 'Splendid Occasions in English History 1520-1947.' I cannot subscribe to this edition but I will do everything possible to promote your album. This publication is very interesting. If this interests you, I would like to propose some Ball programs that took place in the first quarter of the 20th century. These are programs of balls organized by artists-painters from Montparnasse. I have 200 copies, each one includes posters, tickets, etc….based on Gontcharova, Picasso, etc. drawings. You could make an ensemble cover and publish the 200 numbered copies under your company's name, like Jacques Brunoff did with the rest of his programs from the Russian Ballet. I think you could sell each copy for about 10 shillings. At the same time I am sending you a copy of the programs. I can send you 200 identical sets. I want 50 pounds sterling for the 200 copies. If you want to add some reproductions to the publication I can provide 10-20 printing plates (in copper and zinc) for an additional cost. Please let me know if this is convenient for you. I also have very rare documents about balls (etchings, color lithographs, etc….originals from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries) and two small volumes of 'Memories of Rigoleboche,' a famous dancer at balls from the era of Napoleon III, with a photographic portrait (a rare thing for its time). I am much better now but I still live in the countryside.". [21596] |400| {R100}

Description: Mikhail Larionov (Russian, 1881 - 1964). "Paris Painters' Balls, Letter #2". Autograph letter signed. 1951. Provenance: Bloomsbury Auctions, London. Letters by Larionov are rarely seen on the market. This is another important letter relating to the Russian ball programs of the 1920s. Autograph letter (in another hand) signed "M. Larionov." Written in French, dated October 20, 1951, from Larionov's Parisian address at 16 Rue Jacques Callot, to Ifan Kyrle Fletcher (in London?). Single-sided 1 p. 4to (10 1/2 x 8 1/4 in.). Complete English translation as follows: "I received your letter of Oct. 15, 1951. You received exactly what I sent you. I have 200 copies of what you received. I still have programs from the 'Banal Ball' in a smaller size and quantity than those I sent you earlier. I have others, but not many, and I also have some street posters. The posters can be added for free, but I do not have the same number of copies. I have some printing plates that I can give you if you want to print them the same format of the 'Transmental Ball' (two etchings on one page) and this way be able to complete the set. I will write a small text for this. This will become your edition under the ensemble title of 'The Paris Painters' Balls.' I will be in Paris by the end of the month and I will send you more etchings. What is important right now is to know if this interests you. Dear friend, please send my regards to Mrs. Fletcher.".
