Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Damien Hirst (English, b.1965). "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida: Angus Fairhurst, Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas". Color offset lithograph poster. 2004. Medium weight white wove paper. The full sheet. Fine impression. Good condition. Provenance: Private collection, London. The photograph was taken by Maia Norman, Damien Hirst's partner, on their farm in Devon. It features a gorilla sculpture by Angus Fairhurst, installed on their land, which has proved very intriguing to the cows. Printed on the occasion of the group exhibition at the Tate Britain, March 3 to May 31, 2004. The name 'In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida' is taken from the title track of an LP released in 1968 by the West Coast rock band, Iron Butterfly. The song was originally going to be called 'In the Garden of Eden'. Legend has it that the lead singer was so drunk when he first announced the song's title that one of the band members wrote down phonetically the slurred words 'In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida'. Overall size: 30 x 20 in. (762 x 508 mm). Image size: 30 x 20 in. (762 x 508 mm). [26298] |100| {R100}

Description: Damien Hirst (English, b.1965). "Pharmacy Panel (Gold/Bronze) (1 panel)". Color silkscreen and offset lithograph. 1997. Signed lower right. Printed with five colors and metallic gold ink. The full sheet. Fine impression. Fine condition. Provenance: Private collection, Birmingham, England. A panel of wallpaper (the full repeat pattern) of pills and pharmaceutical products printed for Hirst's Pharmacy Restaurant (please see attached image of the silver wallpaper in place). Each section of the pharmaceutical images (the "wall chart") has a title and a reference to a Biblical passage. Pharmacy was a fashionable restaurant in Notting Hill, London, which opened in 1997. The venture was backed in the early days by Hirst and the public relations guru Matthew Freud. It gained further publicity thanks to a dispute with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, which claimed the name, pill bottles, and medical items on display could confuse people looking for a real pharmacy. The name itself breached the Medicines Act 1968, which restricts the use of the word "pharmacy". The restaurant's name was subsequently changed to "Army Chap" and then "Achy Ramp" (anagrams of "pharmacy"). Initial plans to open further restaurants outside London were quietly dropped and the restaurant itself closed in September, 2003. Overall size: 20 1/2 x 21 3/16 in. (521 x 538 mm).
