The Kafirs Illustrated in a Series of Drawings taken among the Amazulu, Amaponda, and Amakosa Tribes; also, Portraits of the Hottentot, Malay, Fingo, and other races inhabiting Southern Africa: together with Sketches of Landscape Scenery in the Zulu country, Natal, and the Cape Colony, 1849, b & w litho. port. frontis. (some light spotting), mainly to margins, thirty fine col. litho. plts., some marks and slight soiling to margins, one plt. with marginal tear not affecting image (without loss), modern half plum morocco gilt, incorporating orig. cloth covers with large gilt morocco title label to upper cover, some marks and surface wear, large folio Abbey, Travel, 339. George French Angas was born in Durham and studied anatomical drawing and lithography in London. In 1843 he went to Australia, and in the later 1840s spent about a year in South Africa, during which time he compiled material for the present work.
