[Map] Joshua Fry and Peter Jefferson,

Lot 1057: [Map] Joshua Fry and Peter Jefferson, "A Map of the Most Inhabited Part of Virginia ..." (London: T. Jefferys, 1775) framed

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: [Map] Joshua Fry and Peter Jefferson, "A Map of the Most Inhabited Part of Virginia ..." (London: T. Jefferys, 1775) framed the title continues, "containing the whole Province of Maryland with Parts of Pensilvania, New Jersey and North Carolina," engraving printed from four plates, the horizontal pairs joined together and folded, as placed in atlas, with old colored outlining

Condition Report: Some uneven toning and very light offsetting. Prospective buyers may submit an inquiry requesting a more detailed examination and/or clarification of the condition report. Any condition statement is given as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact, nor regarded as a warranty or guarantee. Alex Cooper Auctioneers is not responsible for any error or omission. The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or is free from wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. ------------------------------------------- ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: October 4, 2012: The map is presented in two frames, professionally done but not to conservation standards. We have not removed the map from the frames, but we can see condition well enough. There are no mats. The sheets are clearly not laid down. The map was once in an atlas, and there are vertical folds as a result. The maps were misfolded more than once, and some of the folds have separated, especially in the lower margin. There are good margins at top and bottom. The outer margins on the sides are closer to the plate marks. One sheet on the upper and the lower half is trimmed for joining purposes, and the pasting-together was carefully done. The coloring appears to be original. There is some light offsetting and scattered light foxing. The left third of the southern map has more toning than the rest of the map. (Apparently it was left sticking out of the atlas at some point).
