Description: Anderson (Captain T.C.). Ubique: War Services of all the Officers of H.M.'S Bengal Army, Exhibiting the Rank and Various Services of Every Officer in the Army... Also Containing the Order of the Victoria Cross..., Calcutta, [1863], one or two light spots, original blindstamped cloth, light wear to spine, faded, 8vo. Provenance: Lieut. J. Buckley V.C. (signature to title). Lieutenant John Buckley (1813-1876) was awarded the Victoria Cross 'For Gallant defence of the magazine at Delhi'. During the 1857 Indian Mutiny, Buckley and eight other soldiers defended the Delhi magazine (munitions store). Vastly outnumbered, he decided to blow up the building (and themselves) rather than let the ammunition fall into the mutineers hands, miraculously surviving along with three others. Upon capture, he learnt his entire family had been killed by the rebels, and no longer caring for his own life, later escaped and volunteered for all manner of dangerous missions. He returned to England in 1858, and was awarded the VC from the Queen. A blue commemorative plaque is sited at the Travellers Call, Stalybridge and his Victoria Cross is at the Royal Army Ordnance Corps Museum, Camberley. (1)

D[odington]., 1st ed., 1670, title within rule border, a.e.g., 19th century morocco, lacking upper cover (detached), small 8vo. An account of travels to Ethiopia, supposedly written by an Italian. However Juel Jensen, in a 1981 article in the Book Collector, described this work as a "literary forgery". He suggests that there never was an Italian edition or such a person as Giacomo Barrati and that the core of the book was taken from Samuel Purchas. (1)
