Travels into divers parts of Europe and Asia, Undertaken by the French King's Order to Discover a New Way by Land into China, 2 parts in 1 vol., 1st English ed., 1693, title printed in red and black, 2 pp. ads. at rear, long closed tear to leaf A2, a little spotting and soiling throughout, printing flaw to p. 173 sl. affecting last four lines of text, contemp. ownership signature of Thomas Stringer to front f.e.p., contemp. sheep gilt, some wear, spine partially split with a little loss at head, 12mo. Avril set out on his mission in 1685, visiting Cyprus, Syria, Asia Minor and Persia before being turned back at Astrakhan. He returned to France via Constantinople, Moldavia and Poland. Wing A4275.
