It is titled “Le Chat et les Fleurs” on the lower central margin. This etching is bound as issued in to the book 'Les Chats' by Champfleury. The book was published in Paris, by J. Rothschild Editeur in 1870. Furthermore, the book contains a portrait frontispiece by Champfleury after Burbanck, Lambert's 'Jeux des Chats', Amand Gautier's 'La Mere-Chatte', Crafty's 'Vauriens a la Poursuite du Chat' and 'Le Dejeuner' by Champfleury after Burbanck. Édouard MANET (Paris, 1832-1883) Les Gitans. Gravure, deuxième et dernier état. Grandes marges, imprimée par Delâtre, publiée par Cadart et Chevalier. 31 x 24 cm. Feuille 52 x 36 cm. Provenance : - Cette gravure a dû être livrée par Manet pour la Société des aquafortistes. Elle a été acquise par l'un de ses membres - Armand Queyroy (1830-1893), fondateur de la société archéologique du Vendômois, puis conservateur du musée de Moulins. - Dans sa famille depuis l'origine. Manet, l'inventeur du moderne, découpe ses tableaux et les prolonge par la gravure. Très jeune il est influencé par l'Espagne. Joueurs de guitare, bohémiennes, gitanes sont exposés à la Galerie Martinet en 1861 ; ces 14 tableaux lui valent les éloges de Baudelaire. De cette série sont conservés : "La Gitane", femme à la cigarette (92 x 73 cm) au Princeton University Art Museum (Etats Unis), "Lola de Valence" (123 x 92 cm) au musée d'Orsay et "Le Bohémien" au musée du Louvre Abou Dhabi (90 x 53 cm). Notre gravure reprend un fragment de ce dernier tableau de gitans exécuté vers 1861-1862, découpé vers 1865-1867 : "L'homme debout la guitare à la bandoulière". Qualité d'exécution, contraste de noir et de blanc réunissent tout l'univers de Manet dans cette gravure. Sans oublier sa source d'inspiration et ses étranges affinités avec l'école espagnole.
