GUIDO RENI (CIRCLE OF)

Estimated Price: $8,000 - $10,000

Description: GUIDO RENI (CIRCLE OF) A superb original oil on canvas undertaken almost certainly by a member of the circle of Italian baroque painter Guido Reni (1575-1642). This 19" x 25" unsigned work depicts an angel with halo, right hand raised with index finger pointed skyward, with two red sashes crossing the figure's chest. The painting, restored at one time, has had a bit of the restoration "spring" to the left of the figure's face, exposing a zig-zag 4" surface split which could be restored. This painting is nearly identical to a section of Reni's painting "The Annunciation", ca. 1627-29, now held at the Louvre. It may be a variant replica made by Reni himself, or a copy by a student, perhaps Simone Cantarini. The painting is accompanied by a significant amount of research undertaken by its previous owner. Reni painted several Annunciations: another is at the Quirinal Palace in Rome.

Guido Reni

Estimated Price: €4,050 - €4,500

Description: Guido Reni (1575 Calvenzano - 1642 Bologna) Werkstatt attr.;Kopf der KleopatraBildnis Kleopatras mit geschmücktem, langem Haar, den Kopf ins Profil wendend. "Guido (...). 35 cm x 30,5 cm. Rahmen. Wir danken Herrn Dr. Roberto Contini, Gemäldegalerie Berlin, für seine kunsthistorische Beurteilung im März 2013. Attributed to the studio of Guido Reni (1575 - 1642). Head of Cleopatra. Oil on canvas, relined.
