Description: A matted and framed behind glass serigraph by listed artist Woodrow Wilson "Woody" Crumbo (January 21, 1912-April 4, 1989). Crumbo was a Potawatomi artist, flautist, and dancer. As an independent prospector, he found one of the largest beryllium veins in the nation. His paintings are held by several prominent museums, including the Smithsonian Institution and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A 1978 inductee into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, Crumbo became an "ambassador of good will" for Oklahoma in 1982 under appointment by Governor George Nigh. The serigraph is signed lower right, image measures12.6" x 16" and frame 25.5" x 28" 1.5". Total weight approximately 9 lbs. Matting is slightly warped and will need replacement.

Description: 2 Southwest Indian Prints - W Crumbo and Vigil. The large print in this lot is of a Indian woman weaving a basket and is by Woody Crumbo (1912-1989). It measures 12.5'' x 11''. A Pottawatomie Indian, Crumbo explores in his art the traditions and ceremonies of his own tribe as well as those of the Creek, Sioux, and Kiowa nations. Crumbo works in oil and egg tempera, as well as in watercolor, sculpture, stained glass, and silkscreen. Under the guidance of Olle Nordmark, he also learned etching. The largest collection of Crumbo's work, about 175 paintings, is owned by the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, although his work has been exhibited in many museums throughout the United States. The other print is of a horse, by Vigil (probably Frank Vigil an Apache Reservation artist (1922-1974)), and measures 5.25'' x 6''.

The original was painted around 1950. ''Woodrow Crumbo(1912-1989) was an American Indian artist, flautist and dancer of Potawatomi descent. His paintings are held by several museums including the Smithsonian Institute and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Born in Oklahoma, Crumbo moved with his mother to Kansas as child after the death of his father in 1916. Orphaned in 1919, he spent the rest of his childhood living with various American Indian families. He earned a scholarship to the Wichita American Indian Institute, graduating as valedictorian to continue his studies at Wichita University and the University of Oklahoma. After his teacher at Chilocco Indian School sold some of Crumbo's paintings to the San Francisco Museum of Art, Crumbo shifted his career plans from professional Native American dancer to visual artist. Between 1938 and 1941 Crumbo worked as Director of Art at the Bacone College in Muskogee.
