In 1910, he settled in Paris and joined the Cubist movement until 1925. He then formed his own style, influenced by primitivism. In 1941, he emigrated to the US and worked as a professor at the Arts Students League of New York. After the end of World War II, he returned to France. Zadkine has gained international notoriety by his monumental bronze sculpture ‘The Destroyed City’, which recalls the destruction of Rotterdam in 1940.
