L172 ANTIQUE RARE FRENCH MARTI ORMOLU FIGURAL CLOCK

by Estate Road Show Auctions LLC

2011

USA

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: We offer for your consideration Rare Samuel Marti ( S Marti et Cie ) Ormolu French Figural Mantle Clock This is in the style of Louis the XVI, The porcelain dial shows some wear and scratches with Arabic Numeral s and and chapter ring. Strikes the hours and half hours with a chime. The top is a Bell form and in the pictures notice the detail in the Ormolu , striking period artwork. The movement were always top quality, The letter in the medallion appears to be an L or an S but it is script and I believe is Samuel as all references to Louis go back to Samuel , the Medaillie d'Argent is silver medal and translates to 1889 in 1890 he won the gold medal. Loomes lists a J Marti & Cie ca 1860, Fritz Marti & Cie 1867, S Marti & Cie 1867 and Samuel Marti ca 1889-1910 while another source also lists a L Marti although this may just be a misreading of the initial. Little appears to be known about any of them. Needs a bit of TLC and a good home Sold as is but not in working condition. Bearing the makers mark (L or S Marti) Marti 1889 with the numbers Brass 6745 9 2
