Since that sale, these rare "Harry Houdini" Signed Stock Certificates for the "Houdini Picture Corporation" have increased in collector popularity. An excellent specimen for display. The Houdini Picture Corporation was formed by Harry Houdini in 1920. He directed and produced only two movies: the first, "The Man from Beyond", was successful; the second, "Haldane of the Secret Service", proved a dismal failure. At that point, Houdini abruptly ended his film career. The Houdini Picture Corporation went out of business less than 6 years after its creation.Known as the greatest stage magician of his and perhaps any era, he invented or perfected many of the illusions that still thrill audiences today. Houdini was killed at age 51 when a fan punched him, simply to test his claim that he could handle any blow, and inadvertently ruptured his infected appendix.

Description: Historic Americana Colorful 1909 Ransom E. Olds Signed Stock Certificate RANSOM E. OLDS (1864 - 1950). A Famous Pioneer of the American automotive industry, for whom both the Oldsmobile and Reo brands were named. He claimed to have built his first steam car as early as 1894, and his first gasoline powered car in 1896. Signed Stock Certificate forThe Kansas City, Mexico And Orient Railway Company, dated 1909, Extremely Fine. This highly colorful, ornate Printed Certificate measures 9"x 15" and is dated January 15, 1909, Kansas. Stock Certificate, for fifty shares, issued to and Signed on verso by Ransom E. Olds. Printed in bold orange and black. Vignette of a locomotive at top center. Perforation cancellations do not affect Olds' signature. Ransom Olds was one of the earliest American automotive pioneers, and is considered by many to be the founder of the American automobile industry. He is credited with having built the first automobile factory, and being the first manufacturer to mass-produce cars. In 1899 he founded the Olds Motor Works whose "curved dash" model (1901-1907) was the most successful car up to that time, and the first produced in any quantity. Olds' success with this model is also credited with encouraging both inventors and investors to enter the automotive field. It has also been noted that many of the men who were to become key figures in the automotive industry over the next 40 years got their start at the Olds Motor Works. In 1904 Olds left the company in a dispute over the direction that the company was taking and, in 1905, founded the REO Motor Car Company. The company produced high quality automobiles from 1905 to 1936, at which time automobile production was discontinued in favor of commercial vehicle production. Olds served as president of REO until 1924, and later as chairman of the board; he severed all ties with REO in 1937. Conceived in 1900 by A.E. Stilwell, the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway was the predecessor to the Chihuahua al Pacifico railroad in Mexico. In the wake of a 1912 bankruptcy, the AT & SF acquired the line in 1928, largely in order to gain access to the west Texas old fields.

Description: Engraved stock certificate, with gold foil seal. 8½x11". Issued to Arthur C. Young for two $10 shares in the Birth Of A Race Photoplay Corporation. Signed by the last President and Secretary of the year-old Corporation, one of the last certificates issued, as the film premiered two months later. The Birth of a Race was a silent drama film originally conceived in 1917 by Booker T. Washington’s secretary as an African-American response to D.W. Griffith’s Birth of a Nation, which extolled the Ku Klux Klan with racist stereotypes. The production was eventually taken over by whites who cut much of the original “Negro” footage and transformed the movie, by the time of its release, just after the end of World War I, into a “religious” German-American war story starring white actors. Nevertheless, it is considered by historians to be the genesis of independent Black cinema which inspired African-American filmmakers of the future. The Birth of a Race was a silent drama film originally conceived in 1917 by Booker T. (2 items)Simon Lake (September 4, 1866 - June 23, 1945) was a Quaker American mechanical engineer and naval architect who obtained over two hundred patents for advances in naval design and competed with John Philip Holland to build the first submarines for the United States Navy.He built his first submarine, "Argonaut Junior", in 1894 in response to an 1893 request from the Navy for a submarine torpedo boat. Neither Argonaut nor Lake's following submarine, Protector, built in 1901, were accepted by the Navy. Protector was the first submarine to have diving planes mounted forward of the conning tower and a flat keel. Four diving planes allowed Protector to maintain depth without changing ballast levels. Protector also had a lock-out chamber for divers to leave the submarine. Lake, lacking Holland's financial backing, was unable to continue building submarines in the United States. He sold Protector to Imperial Russia in 1904 and spent the next seven years in Europe designing submarines for the Austro-Hungarian Navy, the Kaiserliche Marine.
