Louis Icart-Limited Edition-Summer Dreams

Lot 914: Louis Icart-Limited Edition-Summer Dreams

by ArtVipCharity.com

August 9, 2014, 12:00 PM PST

Santa Fe, NM, USA

Estimated Price: $1,200 - $1,300

Description: Louis Icart-Limited Edition giclee on paper-Summer Dreams 28x26 inches approx. The signature is in the plate. Includes certificate of authenticity. Custom framed.

Condition Report: This item is new in mint condition. Summer Dreams by Louis Icart. Limited Edition giclee on paper. Signed in the plate. Includes certificate of authenticity. Approx. 26x28 inches.Louis Icart was born in Toulouse, France. He began drawing at an early age. He was particularly interested in fashion, and became famous for his sketches almost immediately. He worked for major design studios at a time when fashion was undergoing a radical change-from the fussiness of the late nineteenth century to the simple, clingy lines of the early twentieth century. He was first son of Jean and Elisabeth Icart and was officially named Louis Justin Laurent Icart. The use of his initials L.I. would be sufficient in this household.Icart fought in World War I. Icart relied on art to stem his anguish, sketching on every available surface. Icart was a successful banker to please the family. It was not until his move to Paris in 1907 that Icart would concentrate on painting, drawing and the production of countless beautiful etchings, which have served (more than the other mediums) to indelibly preserve his name in twentieth century art history. When he returned from the front he made prints from those drawings. The prints, most of which were aquatints and drypoints, showed great skill. Because they were much in demand, Icart frequently made two editions (one European, the other American) to satisfy his public. These prints are considered rare today, and when they are in mint condition they fetch high prices at auction.By the late 1920s Icart, working for both publications and major fashion and design studios, had become very successful, both artistically and financially. His etchings reached their height of brilliance in this era of Art Deco, and Icart had become the symbol of the epoch. Icart has created for us a picture of Paris and New York life in the 1920s and 1930s. Excellent condition.

Condition Report: This is a fine reproduction and in mint condition. The Tenderfoot - Charles Russell. Limited Edition Giclee on archival canvas. The signature is in the plate. Edition size is 300. Includes Certificate of Authenticity. Custom framed.Charles Marion Russell was born 1864, in the little town of Oak Hill, a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri. His family owned the Oak Hill Firebrick and Tile Works and were prosperous. We know quite a bit about Charlies early years as much of his life story has become legend. Charlie was not particularly fond of school and in later years, playfully denied ever setting foot in a school. He would then correct himself by saying he had gone one day when his brother was sick, and he had taken his place. As a child Charlie was much more interested in the activities down on the waterfront of his Missouri home. He was fascinated with the West and he would spend day after day watching the explorers, soldiers, fur traders and entrepreneurs arriving from and destined for the upper reaches of the Missouri. He read everything he could on the West and was determined to be a cowboy just as soon as he could leave home. Gradually his reputation grew. The Prince of Wales, while visiting Calgary, Canada, purchased a Russell, which now hangs in Buckingham Palace. The painting sold for $10,000. At the time, it was the highest price ever paid for the work of a living American artist. With his career in full bloom, Russell had showings throughout the country. In 1925 he was honored with a special exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Russell also cast in bronze and can be seen in museums throughout the world. He was also a fine writer and humorist. His books include Rawhide Rawlins Stories and Trails Plowed Under. He is also remembered for his delightful personal letters to his friends. Many were collected by his wife and published under the title Good Medicine. Many people are struck with the imagination and animation in Russells paintings. They often tell a story and leave you with the question, What will happen next. Excellent condition.

Tarkay Limited Edition Serigraph

Lot 990: Tarkay Limited Edition Serigraph

by ArtVipCharity.com

August 9, 2014, 12:00 PM PST

Santa Fe, NM, USA

Estimated Price: $5,000 - $6,000

Description: Tarkay Limited Edition Serigraph Hand signed by the artist. Custom framed. Includes certificate of authenticity. Approx 24x28 inches.

Condition Report: This is in excellent condition. Hand signed by the artist. Includes certificate of authenticity. Tarkay drew upon the entire realm of art history in a body of work that is not only aesthetically agreeable and compositionally seductive, but a cultural phenomenon responsible for countless love letters, innumerable nights of passion and incalculable furtive glances - the very substance of visual poetry. Todays roots as a painter take hold in the decisive years of modern art. The bright colors and flat patterns build on the paths forged by Matisse, Mouly, and the Fauves.Tarkay constructed a perspective and then took it away. The paintings go through an abstract transformation, the perspective dissolves into colors and shapes, her face remains, and the world reconstructs around her. There is an ancient mystery in the work of Tarkay that must be discovered for oneself. Tarkay dove deep into history, and brought up pearls for our times. The quality of his line was organic, the quality of his woman, his art, was magic. Tarkay died 2012.

Howard Behrens Limited Edition Serigraph

Lot 1005: Howard Behrens Limited Edition Serigraph

by ArtVipCharity.com

August 9, 2014, 12:00 PM PST

Santa Fe, NM, USA

Estimated Price: $2,500 - $3,500

Description: Howard Behrens Limited Edition Serigraph. signed and numbered by the artist. Approx 25x32. Includes certificate of authenticity.

Condition Report: This work has an original Howard Behrens signature, this piece is in mint condition. Limited Edition Serigraph. signed and numbered by the artist. Approx 25x32. For the past 25 years, Howard Behrens, the worlds most renowned palette knife artist, has had a romance with the sun. From the idyllic lakes of Italy to the intimate gardens of New England, the artist has danced with her, chased her, seen her in her many different moods. Behrens motivation comes from his strong passion to capture the essence of the places he visits around the world. The artist has been influenced by Monet, Van Gogh and Nicola Simbari, the Italian palette knife artist. Behrens attempts to express his love for the radiance of the suns gifts - shadow, light, color, and the subtle nuances of these elements. Many years ago, Behrens learned that the only way he can really achieve what he feels in his paintings is to create them using a palette knife for its boldness and control of color instead of a brush.

Estimated Price: $2,000 - $2,200

Condition Report: This is new in mint condition. Claude Monet Limited Edition hand embellished giclee on canvas The Walk by Claude Oscar Monet. The signature is in the plate. Monet was a French impressionist painter who brought the study of the transient effects of natural light to its most refined expression. Monet was born on 1840, in Paris, but he spent most of his childhood in Le Havre. There, in his teens, he studied drawing; he also painted seascapes outside with the French painter Eugene Louis Boudin. By 1859 Monet had committed himself to a career as an artist and began to spend as much time in Paris as possible. During the 1860s he was associated with the preimpressionist painter Edouard Manet, and with other aspiring French painters destined to form the impressionist school Camille Pissarro, Pierre Auguste Renoir, and Alfred Sisley. Working outside, Monet painted simple landscapes and scenes of contemporary middle-class society, and he began to have some success at official exhibitions. As his style developed, however, Monet violated one traditional artistic convention after another in the interest of direct artistic expression. His experiments in rendering outdoor sunlight with a direct, sketchlike application of bright color became more and more daring.
