STORMY NIGHT BY MAYA GREEN (UKRAINE, B. 1957).

by Selkirk Auctioneers & Appraisers

July 31, 2015, 11:00 AM CST

St. Louis, MO, USA

Estimated Price: $250 - $500

Description: STORMY NIGHT BY MAYA GREEN (UKRAINE, B. 1957). Oil on board, signed in the lower right corner. Impasto abstract. Image 15.25"h. 29"w., in a frame, 24.75"h. 38.5"w. Maya Green's technique combined with bright colors may single her out from other artists. She paints in oils, and uses a palette knife because it allows her to apply pure color, delicate lines, and perhaps most importantly, to express energy that no brush is able to capture. She tries to listen to her intuition when it comes to choosing color or light. When asked about her last collection, Green says, "When I pass by beautiful sceneries, it's never enough time to look at them through the window of a car. In my pictures, I try to catch the moment (stop the car) and give people the opportunity to look at that natural beauty and take a break from a daily routine. It's important because people are so busy nowadays that they easily forget that they're part of that beauty." Artist Statement: "I have been an artist my whole life. I was born and raised in the Ukraine, and I first developed my love for art there. Since my childhood, I have been intrigued with the patterning of light and the interaction of color. I studied at the School of Art in Ukraine. In 1978, I graduated from the Facility of Art. In 1966, I moved to Israel and settled in Tiberias, where I continued to pursue my passion as an artist and sculptor." The years spent in the Tiberias Rivera have impacted the themes and bright palette in Green's art pieces, mainly the landscapes. She now splits her time between Tel Aviv and Los Angeles.

Condition Report: We provide condition information when it is requested by a potential bidder, as a part of our dedication to excellent customer service.
