Winchester Pre '64 Model 70 Featherweight Rifle

Lot 69: Winchester Pre '64 Model 70 Featherweight Rifle

by Amoskeag Auction Co

August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $2,500 - $4,000

Description: serial #461820, 358 Win, 22" barrel with a bright, mostly excellent bore which shows some minor oxidation and perhaps light pitting nearer the throat. The metal surfaces retain about 97% original blue and anodized finishes showing some minor handling marks and light muzzle wear. The bolt body is bright with only light operational marks and is correctly numbered on its underside to the gun; the knob is toning to silver with a very small area of light relief on the handle likely for scope clearance. The checkered walnut Monte Carlo stock rates very good plus to near excellent with overall tiny dings and light handling marks. What appears to be the original factory sights are in place, the rear sight showing some impact marks on the left and right side of its base. While catalogued only until 1956, this 1957-manufactured gun appears to be an original authentic chambering, the buttplate is the plastic composite which is correct for a 1957 gun (aluminum buttplates were discontinued in 1956); the underside of the barrel is completely unmarked but for the witness mark. Overall a very nice example of these very rare factory large bore featherweight chamberings. (36520-2872) [Richard "Stretch" Kennedy Collection] {C&R}

Colt Python Double Action Revolver

Lot 176: Colt Python Double Action Revolver

by Amoskeag Auction Co

August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $1,000 - $1,500

Description: serial #3505, 357 Magnum, 6" ventilated rib barrel with an excellent, bright bore. The metal surfaces rate excellent and retain about 97% plus of their factory original Royal Blue finish, with a few extremely faint handling marks and a minor isolated instance of light fading around the left side of the muzzle. The fluted cylinder rates excellent and also retains about 98% plus of its factory original Royal Blue finish, but displays a light turn ring. The checkered black rubber Pachmayr grips rate and feel excellent and exhibit negligible signs of handling. The revolver features its original front ramp and adjustable rear sights. Despite its age, this early production (1957 vintage) Python appears to have seen extremely limited use and remains in excellent condition overall. The Python's reputation for accuracy, combined with the exemplary condition of this particular model, should prove to make this a well sought after handgun and superb shooter. (136708-2)

Gallagher Standard Model Civil War Carbine By Richardson & Overman

Lot 183: Gallagher Standard Model Civil War Carbine By Richardson & Overman

by Amoskeag Auction Co

August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $1,500 - $2,000

Description: serial #15728, .50 cal. percussion, 22 3/8" barrel with a bright very good bore which shows strong rifling with light oxidation within the grooves. The barrel is primarily a dark blue-gray patina showing remnants of minor oxidation, light pitting and some scattered handling marks and dings. The frame and lockplate are a mottled dark gray case-hardened patina, also showing some minor dings and handling marks with the lockplate showing some light pitting. Buttplate and patchbox are the same dark gray mottled patina. The stock rates very good showing an old light cleaning with some minor dings and handling marks, the toe of the buttplate now being slightly proud of the wood. Both the lever and link are numbered "310". The gun seems to function well mechanically and the sling ring is intact on the bar. (36628-12) {ANTIQUE}

Winchester Pre '64 Model 70 Super Grade Rifle

Lot 197: Winchester Pre '64 Model 70 Super Grade Rifle

by Amoskeag Auction Co

August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $2,500 - $4,000

Description: serial #6169, 375 H&H, 25" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces on this early pre-war rifle retain about 97%-98% factory blue. The receiver and bottom metal are clearly refinished, extremely well in a factory polish. The receiver proof no longer has its raised wire edge, the barrel proof however exhibiting raised metal and original factory finish, the barrel a much later 1957-vintage with the solder-on front sight ramp. The bolt body is bright with the knob having toned to a silvery patina, it is appropriately DC pencil-numbered to the receiver. The walnut classic style stock rates excellent showing only minor dings and handling marks from light use. The original front sight is intact, its hood is no longer present; the appropriate 50s-vintage Winchester model 70B "rollover" rear sight is in place as well. The underside of the barrel is stamped "Super" and shows the later additional magnum recoil block normally affixed to these 50s-era barrels; the stock appropriately, very neatly inletted for it. Overall an excellent large-bore Super Grade, clearly factory re-barreled at some point in the 50s, the factory doubtless refinishing the metal at the same time. Estimated Price: $1,800 - $2,200

Description: serial #46962, 348 Win, 24" barrel with an excellent bore. The metal surfaces retain about 95% original blue that has a few areas of light handling wear and spots of very light pitting and surface oxidation, most of which is around the muzzle. The checkered deluxe walnut stocks rate excellent and have a few light dings and have some minor flaking. Both the forearm and the short tang buttstock show evidence of having been lightly cleaned and professionally restored. The correct sling swivel bases and detachable swivels are intact. The original sights, including the front sight hood are present as well. A near excellent 1957 vintage example overall that should make a terrific shooter or large bore hunting rifle.
