Three Interesting Ideological Publications – 1937-1948

by Jerusalem of Gold Ltd.

February 23, 2016, 6:00 PM EET

Jerusalem, Israel

Description: A. Mea'z Ve'ad Hayom, the history of the Haganah in pictures. Tel Aviv 1948. Booklet by Yehuda Erez, pioneer, author and researcher of the labor movement and of the laborers in the Land of Israel. The pictures show the development of the army since the "Ha'Shomer" organization was founded in 1907 until the IDF was founded. Among the pictures: Jewish soldiers in the Turkish army, the Jewish Legion "HaRishon LeYehuda" in World War I, the defenders of Tel Chai, the defenders of Chulda, special night squad, the members of the Brigade, pictures of IDF airplanes, cavalry, tanks and ships and a picture of Ben Gurion at a parade on the day the IDF was sworn in. 53 pictures. Published by Mifleget Poalei Eretz Yisrael. On the back cover, the emblem of the party. The booklet was printed as propaganda for Ben Gurions' party. 32 pp. Condition: Good. B. Letter from the central committee of the Palestine Communist party to the High Commissioner of Palestine. Jerusalem, 1941. Typewritten page. The letter deals with the mysterious murder of the worker Sioma Mironiansky, who was the secretary of the Tel Aviv branch of the Communist party. The party members had no doubt that Sioma was murdered by detectives of the British police. The Journal "Kol Ha'Am", the underground journal of the Palestine Communist party, from August 1941, dedicated a long article to Sioma's murder and the hiding of his body. In the article, the party took upon itself to find the murderers. The British, on the other hand, denied any involvement in the murder. At the margins of the page, a call "to the citizens of the country!" – "Join the war against Fascism … send this letter to the High Commissioner". The letter is signed: P.C.P (Palestine Communist Party) Condition: Good. C. Dor Hayom, one-time issue, the journal of independent Judah, articles by Itamar Ben Avi, Moshe Karmon, Oved Ben Ami. 1937, Netanya. Rare! Satiric issue published by Itamar Ben Avi against the declarations of the Peel Commission. The main headline: "The greatest date of our nation after the destruction! Orsmby-Gore and Lord Peel are determining the foundations of the Hebrew State. Long live independent Judah! Printed on 8.7.1937. The issue contains articles about the declarations of the Peel Commission. Among others it is written: "Do not call the Hebrew State the Land of Israel … call it Judah or Zion …" Another article reviewing the events states that in 1957 "or much earlier" a Hebrew State will be established. The issue evoked intense disagreement and critique of Ben Avi. 4 pp. Condition: Very Good. Folding marks and subsequently, a tiny tear.
