Description: Orville Wright (1871-1948) Inventor and Clarence Chamberlain (1893-1976) Aviator. Wright, together with his brother Wilbur, were the inventors of the world's first successful airplane. Orville became famous as a father of modern aviation and developed technology for the United States Army. On December 17, 1903, in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, the Wright brothers succeeded in flying the first free, controlled flight of a power-driven, heavier than air plane. Of four flights they made that day, the longest was 59 seconds, and reached a height of 852 feet. Chamberlain was the second man to pilot a fixed-wing aircraft across the Atlantic Ocean, from New York to the European mainland, while carrying the first transatlantic passenger. Air Mail postal cover, cancelled on December 17, 1928, ?From The Cleveland Airport?in Commemoration of the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of the First Successful Airplane Flight,? signed by both aviators.

As coach, general manager, and part owner of the Washington Redskins in 1969, he led that team to its first winning season in 14 years. 11 ¼? x 9 ¼? scouting report for a September 29, 1957 game between the Detroit Lions and Baltimore Colts, in ink and pencil, front and back, all in the hand of Lombardi. He was an assistant coach with the New York Giants. The 1957 Lions would win the NFL championship in 1957, although they lost this opening game to the Baltimore Colts 34-13. An authenticator has found it necessary to affix their sticker at the lower right.

Description: Details: Aviation and space flight are major themes in this lot of vintage ephemera from the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. Included are three large and six small, illustrated brochures on the principles of flight and the mechanics and techniques of piloting an airplane. These were published by the Civil Aeronautics Administration and the U.S. Navy, and some are dated 1947 (others undated). Space-themed items are a "Rocket Whiz" pencil case with pencils and sharpener, and two figural bottles of Galaxy Space Scout flavored syrups. These bottles look like space men or astronauts, can be turned into banks. The last aviation-themed items are a set of eighteen pieces of stainless steel flatware marked with the old Eastern Airlines logo. The two remaining articles are from Walt Disney: the original 1940 souvenir program from the movie "Fantasia;" and a 1955 product tie-in from the movie, "Lady and the Tramp:" a colorful cardboard mobile of the cartoon dogs, produced by the dog food brand "Pard."To inspect and acquire more detailed information about this lot, please attend our live preview before the auction. Il envoie Deux Pièces pour le Cahier Verts en préparation, et demande deux épreuves, « car la mise en page est un peu délicate »... 25 juin. Heureux de son jugement sur les Deux pièces, il fait une suggestion pour le placement des poésies dans le Cahier ; il signale qu'il a fait une traduction de Roméo et Juliette, « traduction pour la première fois essayée en prose et en poésie vivante, mais entièrement rigoureuse, - avec la collaboration de Georges Pitoëff »... 31 août. L'article de Combat, tout élogieux qu'il fût, l'a découragé dans son « "entreprise folle" [...] du mariage de la poésie et du théâtre. Tu sembles ne pas y croire »... Quant à Saint-John Perse, il l'adore, mais « le respecte trop pour écrire quelque chose sur lui dans un délai si court. [...] Pour l'hommage à Supervielle, Paulhan m'avait écrit 3 mois à l'avance. Il est vrai que j'ai écrit le poème en 2 soirs mais j'avais un "jardin" de 3 mois pour m'y promener »... Il parle d'une « très jolie pantomime dont Barrault doit faire un film », et qu'il souhaite publier en revue « contre une grosse somme d'argent »... La Soirée des Proverbes (fragments). Manuscrit ayant servi à l'impression, sans doute en revue, de fragments de cette pièce « en préparation », qui sera créée le 31 janvier 1954 au Théâtre Marigny par la Compagnie Renaud-Barrault, dans une mise en scène de Jean-Louis Barrault, musique de Maurice Ohana. Il comporte la scène 5 de l'acte Ier, entre l'écolière Follète et le chasseur Alexis, et la scène 1 de l'acte II, entre le diacre Constantin et Castor. Deux poèmes : « Si jamais tu reviens en terre natale »..., dédié « pour Alain » ; et « Il y a des jardins qui n'ont plus de pays » ... dédié à Pierre Viala.
