Description: Bronze with brown patina India, 19th century Depiction of Vishnu under a naga canopy Flanked by his consorts Two further standing deities The figures are dressed in a richly detailed garment and hold different attributes Each head decorated with a high crown Detailed worked back part On a wooden base (later) Height: 17 cm Good condition Vishnu Vishnu is one of the most important divine forms of Hinduism and shows himself in a variety of manifestations. His avatars include Rama and Krishna. In addition, Vishnu is part of the Trimurti, a union of the three cosmic functions of creation, maintenance and destruction, which is illustrated by Vishnu (maintenance), Brahma (creation) and Shiva (destruction). Common attributes of Vishnu include the Wheel of Dharma (chakra), the conch (sankha), the lotus (padma) as a symbol of wisdom and purity, and the mace (gada). Condition: The bronzes are in good condition with natural patina and slight signs of age and wear. The height measures 17 cm. Often they depict mandalas with the wheel of life as well as lines of tradition. Description: Wood with dry lacquer technique, multicolored crystals and glass Mandalay, Burma (Myanmar), 19th century Grand shrine exhibiting Burma's traditional craftsmanship Fine carving Dimensions: 194 x 108 x 68 cm Provenance: Private collection, Germany This Buddhist shrine dates to 19th century Burma. The splendid cabinet is carved from wood and opulently lacquered in gold. It is adorned all around with multicolored crystals and glass. The lower part with two glazed doors is raised on a platform. On top rests the central part with a drawer below the tabernacle in which a Buddha figure can be displayed. The cabinet is crowned by a stepped top in the form of a stupa. Condition: The shrine is in good condition consistent with age. The wood shows some cracks, there are some losses and color abrasions. The dimensions are 194 x 108 x 68 cm (height x width x depth). The upright, oblong and tripartite body of oak is set upon a contoured, protruding socket frame with narrow bracket feet. The lower part consists of a coffered door with a carved lion's head in its center. This is flanked by fluted panels. A wide drawer with a brass knob is positioned in the middle part of the cabinet, which again is flanked by two carved lion's heads. Above that is situated another hinged and coffered door, its center panel again bearing the carved lion's head. The door is flanked by two further figural carvings in the shape of Herma.Condition:The cabinet shows signs of age and wear. The body displays blemishes in places and partially stains are visible as well as worm infestations (inactive).
