In the center, a farmstead is surrounded by tall trees. A few peasants are seen with their dogs on the path. The work war created after an original by the Dutch painter Jan Wijnants. With his evocative paintings the landscape painter, whose works are held most major European collections, influenced numerous painters of the 18th and 19th century. The painting shows fine craquelure and light abrasions along the edges due to rubbing of the frame. The color surface is a little soiled and there are some small stains here and there. The stretcher frame measures 39.5 x 45 cm.Jan Wijnants (around 1632-1684)Littly is known about the artist Jan Wijnants (also Wynants), except that he was born in Haarlem and moved to Amsterdam in 1660 where is was known to be working as both a painter and an innkeeper. Landscapes with dunes form the largest part of his ouvre. He was the teacher of Adriaen van de Velde, and it is known that his paintings inspired both Boucher and Gainsborough.
