by Auctionata AG

July 21, 2015, 6:00 PM CET

Berlin, Germany

Estimated Price: €500 - €650

Description: Oil on woodHungary, 1st half of the 20th centuryGyula Éder (1875-1945) – Hungarian painter, cartoonist and draughtsman, especially portraits, sacral and mythological paintingsSigned at the lower right ‘Éder Gyula’Idyllic wood glade with women that are dancing next to a stream being surprised by two mounted menComposition on the left reminds of the mythological legend of Actaeon and DianaReduced design vocabulary and brush strokes in impressionistic mannerMysterious appearing overall impression Dimensions of panel: 31.9 x 49.4 cmFramed: 42.5 x 59.7 cmVery good condition The Hungarian painter is particularly famous for his mythological images. Parts of this composition thus remind of Actaeon’s legend told by Ovid: while hunting, Actaeon surprises the goddess Diana taking a bath. Thereupon, she transforms him into a stag. The dancing figures on offered paining are however depicted rather blurry. This could also indicate that they are a dream image of the two men, who dream of the young women on the forest clearing.Condition:The painting is in a very good condition with slight signs of age and wear. Under UV-light several smaller touch-ups appear, especially along the edges and in the area of one female figure. The dimensions including the frame measure 42.5 x 59.7 cm, while the dimensions of the panel are 31.9 x 49.4 cm. (nlu) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance. Auctionata charges the resale rights tax pursuant to Section 26 of the German Copyright Act (UrhG) towards the buyer in case of the sale of an original work of art or photography prior to 70 years having lapsed since the death of their creator. An Illustration to the Bhagavata Purana Book 10, c. 1640

by Auctionata US

July 9, 2015, 1:00 PM EST

New York, NY, USA

Estimated Price: $2,000 - $3,000

Description: Opaque watercolors on natural buff paperPopular Mughal at Mewar, c. 164017 lines of black and red ink devanagari scriptVerso: lines of ink textFolio dimensions (height x width):9 1/8 x 16 in. (23.2 x 40.6 cm)Image dimensions (height x width): 7 x 13 1/4 in. (17.8 x 33.7 cm) Good condition Estimate by Auctionata Expert: $2,000-$3,000Two rishis bless the infant Krishna held by Yashoda. The lines of text surrounding the illustration of the holymen dressed in white dhotis - the new-born infant Krishna at the breast of his foster mother Yashoda. Depicted against a flat green ground. The reverse side containing text only - an unusual feature of our folio - given that the vast majority of leaves contain double-sided illustrations.A folio from a well-known and widely dispersed manuscript illustrating episodes of the Bhagavata Purana Book 10 recounting the tales and exploits of Krishna as a small child (as in the present example) and as an adult. The illustrations are executed in an early phase of Rajasthani painting and most likely from Mewar soon after contact with Mughal influence. Thus the illustrations may be considered Popular Mughal, of Mewar origin, although the specific site near Udaipur is yet to be determined. The series also contains numerous archaic pre-Mughal conventions (ie compartmentalization in primary colors, flattened architectural elements and other features) similar to those found in Kalpasutra, “Chaurapanchasika” and Malwa paintings. Discovery of this series in the 1970ʼs helped to define a pivotal period in Rajasthani style increasingly influenced by Mughal naturalism.Folios from this widely dispersed series are held in numerous public and private collections worldwide. MISHA MALPICA

by Eden Fine Antiques Galleries LLC

August 9, 2015, 10:30 AM EST

Marietta, GA, USA

Estimated Price: $500 - $1,000

Description: The AncestorIt is a rare to have such a stunning piece of Historic value to offer you in our Auction, East Meets The West. We proudly present, The Ancestor, created by the celebrated Artist, Misha Malpica. Her realistic clay sculpture embodies the dignity and proud tribal traditions of ancient people. She begins each of her sculptures by previewing hundreds of photographs that document the Native American Indians lifestyle. Using a strong wire armature, she creates the structure then adds polymer clay (A very fine soft material that allows for great detail). Sometimes you'll even find a fingerprint left by the Artist. The clothing design is meticulously researched and made using leather, fur and cloth. The bead-work is indicative of the Ceremonial clothing worn by the Native Americans. The Sculpture is attached to a hand-turned and polished wooden base by Anthony Malpica. The Ancestor, the custom-made stand includes a Mahogany base measuring 30" wide and 31" front to back with four lights on a dimmer switch allowing the proud owner to adjust the intensity of the lighting. This custom lighted display has been made to protect and enhance this marvelous work! In Misha's words, "My color palette consists of warm, rich earth tones with a splash or turquoise or red. I decorate one sculpture at a time and decorate them with feathers and vintage beads and other beautiful adornments. I can?t help myself; I just love the beauty of an iridescent feather, the sparkle of an old bead, the design of a button. Threads and fibers, ribbons and fringe. I add each element to make the sculpture unique"Misha Malpica has been commissioned by The Prince of Saudi and the Actress Demi Moore among others to add her magnificent works to their private collections. Her pieces have been displayed in The Currier Museum of Art in New Hampshire and Boston's Wenham Museum, as well as, countless Shows. Her Sculpture honoring Geronimo is on permanent display in the Wyatt Earp Gallery and Museum. This spectacular sought after piece of Art is awe-inspiring as one takes in the talent, time and passion that Misha has placed creating this magnificent sculpture? The Ancestor!
