MAP TRACINGS USED FOR D-DAY LANDINGS AT UTAH AND OMAHA BEACHES

Lot 302: MAP TRACINGS USED FOR D-DAY LANDINGS AT UTAH AND OMAHA BEACHES

by Alexander Historical Auctions | Alexander Autographs

February 10, 2015, 10:00 AM EST

Chesapeake City, MD, USA

Estimated Price: $1,000 - $1,500

Description: MAP TRACINGS USED FOR D-DAY LANDINGS AT UTAH AND OMAHA BEACHES Lot of four 13" x 14" pieces of tracing paper printed with late corrections to nautical maps showing fortifications, obstacles, etc., used in the American landings at UTAH or OMAHA beaches, or covering nearby beaches. Careful research would reveal the exact part of the Normandy coast covered by each tracing, but all material from the same archive has concerned only the American landing beaches and their vicinity. Each map bears a legend which may include artillery positions, casemates, anti-aircraft emplacements, anti-tank guns, strongpoints, radar, searchlights, mines, etc. The maps are generally cleanly split horizontally as they were stored folded and the tracing paper has split over time, but any loss is very minimal and a condition report for each map is available. Once mended and researched, these would make excellent display items.
