Remington Over Under Double Deringer

Lot 145: Remington Over Under Double Deringer

by Amoskeag Auction Co

August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $1,000 - $1,500

Description: serial #67, 41 RF, 3" barrels with about good bores showing visible rifling with spotted pitting throughout. The metal surfaces of this model No. 3 derringer retain about 50% later applied gold wash finish most prevalent in protected areas, with the remainder worn to smooth nickel with an aged lightly crackled surface. A 1/4" area at the right bottom muzzle has flaked, now showing as a spot of aged brown metal. The hammer, trigger, extractor and pivoting barrel lock all retain traces of fire blue. No crack is apparent at the barrel hinge. The top rib bears a one line REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, NY. Barrel address. The pistol wears genuine mother-of-pearl grips in excellent condition although likely later replacements. Interestingly, the rear face of the grip frame has been engraved with the facsimile signature "W. F. Cody" in script. The pistol is housed in a hinged locking wood case with fitted dark green velvet lining, now fading and lightly soiled. No key is present. A wood insert set into the lining contains four apparently original .41 rimfire cartridges. The outside surface bears a round brass escutcheon and shows finish wear as well as numerous scuffs and marks from storage. Some shrinkage is apparent at the splined corners. Overall a pleasing assemblage bearing the interesting, if not original, signature of Buffalo Bill himself. (146564-26) {C&R}

Winchester Pre '64 Model 70 Bolt Action Rifle

Lot 253: Winchester Pre '64 Model 70 Bolt Action Rifle

by Amoskeag Auction Co

August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $1,800 - $2,200

Description: serial #51636, .220 Swift, 26" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces of the barreled action retain about 95% original blue, the loss is due primarily to some even fading, light high edge wear and some minor handling marks. The bottom metal shows slightly more wear and a few more handling marks with the bow of the guard a plum brown patina. The bolt body remains mostly bright with some minor oxidation, the handle toning slightly. The classic style checkered walnut stock exhibits some really lovely grain figure and rates about very good with overall minor dings and handling marks from the years, some dings and scratches near the toe and a small chip missing on the left side of the pistolgrip. The rifle has been fitted with a Griffin & Howe quick detach scope mount with a 3/4" rings which support a Carl Zeiss Zielklein telescopic sight with post and crosshair reticle and slightly cloudy optics; the original factory sights remain intact. A very good plus example overall which would be an excellent vintage varminter. (6520-2709) [Richard "Stretch" Kennedy Collection] {C&R}

Engraved Smith & Wesson No. 1 Second Issue Revolver

Lot 423: Engraved Smith & Wesson No. 1 Second Issue Revolver

by Amoskeag Auction Co

August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $1,200 - $1,600

Description: serial #30928, 22 Short, 3 1/8" barrel with a near excellent bore demonstrating light frosting in the bore. The barrel and cylinder retain about 98% of their blue finish with some light flaking on the high edges of the barrel and cylinder plus, some of the bluing is starting to thin. The frame is silver plated with about 98% remaining displaying light handling wear and thinning of the high edges. The frame and barrel are covered with about 50% New York scroll engraving with pin dot shadowing. The smooth square butt rosewood grips are in near excellent condition with scattered light dents and handling wear. The grips are correctly numbered to the gun; and the cylinder, barrel and frame have matching assembly numbers. The revolver is housed in a crushed velvet lined hardwood presentation case that exhibits light handling wear. Included with this little gem is a box of U.M.C. 22 short black powder ammunition. The two piece box has been opened and about 49 rounds remain. The box is very good condition with light edge wear on the green colored box and the red side label starting to detach. The ammunition shows light tarnish on the case and white oxidation powder on the bullets. The left grip frame has some hand scribed lettering that is not very legible. This is a wonderful example of a tastefully engraved No. 1. (86343-60) {ANTIQUE}

Lot Of Collectible Ammunition

Lot 1025: Lot Of Collectible Ammunition

by Amoskeag Auction Co

August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Description: This is an opened two piece cardboard box containing 35 rds. of Robin Hood .22 short cartridges. The box has a one piece label with a red background, yellow borders and top section that features the Robin Hood logo at the far right. Also included is a yellow oval at the middle with "Smokeless" within it in black print and a black oval at the top with "Greaseless" within it and in white print as is the balance of the text: "50 .22 cal./Robin Hood/Rim Fire Cartridges/Manufactured By/Robin Hood Ammunition Co./ Swanton, Vt., U.S.A.". The side panels each feature a tan and black drawing of the cartridge along with "Short" emblazoned across the case and "R" as the head stamp. Above it is ".22 Cal." and below: "Robin Hood Smokeless". The bottom portion of the label is a plain, slightly brighter red with narrow yellow stripes running across its upper and lower lengths. This section exhibits light scuffing and some penciled in marks. The top section is a bit faded with some light staining on its left, while foxing is more evident on the side panels including the right, where interestingly enough there appears to be a factory defect as there is a portion of label adhered above another and is somewhat frayed at its bottom. The intact buff colored box features a lid with very light edge wear with thumb cutouts and exhibits some isolated light red staining on the back and a small smudge on the upper front where it meets a slight crease at the top. The bottom compartment has only small spots at the cutouts on each side, but otherwise virtually blemish free on the exterior, and some scattered spots on the inside. The ammunition features "R" head stamps and rates excellent with dark gray tips and bright cases. (76679-4K)

Musically, the song is a pub rocking return to the basic, rocking R&B of the Rolling Stones' early sound, tricked out with some new wave touches
