Description: JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT AND KEITH HARING Graffiti Jacket. Pelt-tip pen and ink on black Bonwit Teller leather jacket, circa 1984. 840x540 mm; 33x21 1/4 inches. This jacket serves as a "who's who" of the downtown New York City street art scene in the 1980s. As a door girl for the Danceteria VIP room "Congo Bill," the owner of this jacket helped originate the idea of tagged clothing in the early 1980s by inviting her social contacts to inscribe her accessories (see also lots 209, 210, 213 and 214). With Basquiat's "crown" and "s" in gold, left recto, and in silver, upper right recto, and Haring's neon green Three Eyed Smiling Face sticker, lower right recto. Additional tags include a large drawing Acid Rain in silver felt tip pen and ink, verso, by Shadi (David Scilken), a spray can by Futura 2000 (Leonard McGurr), as well as Ad-Rock (Adam Horowitz of the Beastie Boys). The b-boy group Rock Steady Crew is referenced in a tag by Crazy Legs (Richard Colón), and RP3 refers to his connection with Madonna in "Boy Toy" tags. Also tagged by graffiti artists CEY ADAMS, ENERGY (John Starr), FAB FIVE FREDDY (Fred Brathwaite), KANO (Dante Ross), DR. REVOLT, STASH (Josh Franklin), ZEPHYR (Andrew Witten), JIGS CITY (Julie Ashcraft) and others.

Description: (KENNEDY, JOHN F.) Mini-album with 14 snapshots made of a television screen depicting Kennedy's presidential inauguration. The album opens with the previous president and vice president, Dwight Eisenhower and Richard Nixon, arriving at the ceremony in top hats. The sequence shows Kennedy seated next to Eisenhower, who confers with the young president-to-be and his wife, while Justice Earl Warren looks on, behind them. A smiling Kennedy and his vice president, Lyndon Johnson, are shown on the dais; as is Jacqueline Kennedy, who is fashionably dressed in a pillbox hat. Close-ups of Jackie show her modestly gazing off camera and then beaming directly into the camera's eye. The final 3 images depict Kennedy and Johnson solemnly taking the oath of office. Silver prints, nearly 2 1/2x4 inches (6.4x10.2 cm.), with the date Jan. 1961 stamped on the top margin. 8vo, leatherette album with plastic ring binding, creased on front cover; prints are housed in plastic sleeves. 1961

by Swann Auction Galleries

April 29, 2015, 10:30 AM EST

New York, NY, USA

Estimated Price: $1,500 - $2,500

Description: JAMES A. M. WHISTLER Portrait of a Young Woman (Miss Seton). Lithograph on antique cream laid paper, 1897. 200x134 mm; 8x5 3/8 inches, full margins. Edition of approximately 26. A superb impression of this very scarce lithograph. We have found only 2 other impressions at auction in the past 30 years. Rosalind Birnie Philip, Whistler's sister-in-law, and subsequent Whistler cataloguers including Levy (it was not known by Way), listed this print as a portrait of Dorothy Seton, who modeled for Whistler in 1902-03. Recent schoalrship has shown that, though the sitter bears a resemblance to Miss Dorothy Seton, it is likely a portrait of an unknown model. Only posthumous impressions of this lithograph are known, printed by Goulding in 1903. Levy 192; Spink 171.
