Homann, ca.1720 Copper engraving and hand color on paper Dimensions: Frame H 29.5" x W 26"; Sight H 23" x W 19.5" Condition: Good Note: "Antique map of Ireland. The elaborate title cartouche in the upper right is rich with Gaelic iconography, including the Gaelic Harp and allegorical representations of Pan, a Celtic adaptation of the Roman god Bacchus and Brigit, the Celtic goddess of poetry, healing and agriculture. The lower cartouche show fisherman pulling in the day's haul. As credited in the title cartouche, this map is based on an original by Nicholas Visscher (1689). Visscher's map became the model for most future maps of Ireland well into the late 18th century. Homann revised and updated this map to reflect early 18th century changes to the island. of Luxembourg."
