(ca. 1960s) Vintage original Orson Welles personal photostat copy of his 56-page unproduced script for The Masque of the Red Death. Written while Welles was in Europe but never filmed. Photostat was the method by which some French scripts were duplicated as opposed to American style mimeographing. The title page reads, “The following comprises two stories by Edgar Allan Poe, including a free adaptation of “The Cask of the Amontillado.” The two are grouped together under the title: - The Masque of the Red Death Screenplay by Orson Welles”. Brown paper covers and content all exhibit staple holes on the spine edge of the pages. Cover shows signs of age and wear. Content remains in vintage very good condition. $300 - $500

Description: Imperial size bronze andirons dating from the second half of the 19th Century, likely originating in France but brought to America to enhance a now demolished Newport, RI mansion.  Height is 41”, width across the base is 23” and the cherub stands 17” tall. Note the powerful casting details: satyrs, lions, and a classical masque all tied together with swags of drapery, shells, and classical volutes. Andirons of this size and quality rarely come to market. This pair has languished in a basement for over 40 years and they are presented as found, though in quite good condition.

Ronfort, André Charles Boulle 1642-1732; Ein neuer Stil für Europa, Frankfurt a.M. 2009; S. 292 f.Die Motive, welche die Panneaux des hier angebotenen Paares schmücken, finden sich in identischer Weise an einer bedeutenden Pendule aus dem J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles (Inventarnr. 72 DA 40). Sie war im Besitz von Gilles Oppenordt und wurde vom Vater gefertigt. Identische bzw. vergleichbare Motive finden sich am Postament der Pendule 'Le char d' Apollon' aus Château de Fontainebleau (Inventarnr. F 829C), die 1996 von J.N. Ronfort und J.D. Augarde als Werk von A.J. Oppenordt identifiziert wurde. A. J. Oppenordt war ein berühmter Kunsttischler während der Regierungszeit des Sonnenkönigs Louis XIV und schuf viele Möbel mit Boulle-Marketerie, einer Dekorationstechnik, die sein Zeitgenosse und Berufskollege André Charles Boulle entwickelt hatte. 1684 erhielt Oppenordt das Recht für ein 'logement' in den Galeries du Louvre. Für Schloss Versailles schuf Oppenordt insgesamt zwölf Möbelstücke; berühmt sind vor allem die beiden Medaillenschränke aus Ebenholz und Messing, die heute noch im 'Salon de l'Abondance' stehen. Oppenordt belieferte auch die Marquise de Louvois, Gattin des königlichen Ministers, und den Prince de Condé.Ashburnham Place, seit 1150 im gleichen Familienbesitz, wurde im Verlaufe der Jahrhunderte mehrfach umgebaut und ergänzt, zuletzt im Jahr 1850. Die 3. und 4. Grafen trugen den Hauptteil einer herausragenden Kunstsammlung zusammen, die 1953 versteigert wurde. Dazu gehörten zahlreiche Möbel und Einrichtungsgegenstände von A.C.
