Estimated Price: $3,000 - $4,000

Description: Howard Behrens Limited Edition Serigraph. Signed and numbered by the artist. approx 28x34. For the past 25 years, Howard Behrens, the worlds most renowned palette knife artist, has had a romance with the sun. From the idyllic lakes of Italy to the intimate gardens of New England, the artist has danced with her, chased her, seen her in her many different moods. Behrens motivation comes from his strong passion to capture the essence of the places he visits around the world. The artist has been influenced by Monet, Van Gogh and Nicola Simbari, the Italian palette knife artist. Behrens attempts to express his love for the radiance of the suns gifts - shadow, light, color, and the subtle nuances of these elements. Many years ago, Behrens learned that the only way he can really achieve what he feels in his paintings is to create them using a palette knife for its boldness and control of color instead of a brush.

by ArtVipCharity.com

August 9, 2014, 12:00 PM PST

Santa Fe, NM, USA

Estimated Price: $4,000 - $5,000

Description: Firey Sunset Limited edition giclee on canvas hand signed and numbered by the artist. approx size is 30x40 inches. Includes certificate of authenticity. Nicola Simbari Born 1927 in Italy. A painter of semi abstract impressionist works; he is a stunning colorist who favors brilliant tones, richly layered with a palette knife. Like the great impressionists of a century ago, Simbaris paintings are drenched in light and energy, but provide new definition through his intensity of vision and dramatic technique. His father worked as an architect to the Vatican. The Citys Renaissance masterpieces and the artistic treasures of the Sistine Chapel so moved Simbari that, before his 13th birthday, he decided to study art and enrolled at the Accademia delle Belle Arti. At 22, he opened his first studio in Rome. Influenced by the sights and sounds of his childhood, Simbaris early works featured gypsies, cafe settings, fishing villages, and rustic scenes of the Italian countryside. Simbari was awarded the coveted commission to paint murals for the Italian Pavilion at the 1958 Worlds Fair in Brussels. Simbari holds a pivotal place in todays international art scene. His works can be found in numerous museums and private and corporate collections the world over.

A painter of semiabstract impressionist works; he is a stunning colorist who favors brilliant tones, richly layered with a palette knife.

Jean -Antoine Watteau - after, 'Fêtes Vénitiennes', circa 1900

Lot 5: Jean -Antoine Watteau - after, 'Fêtes Vénitiennes', circa 1900

by Auctionata

August 28, 2014, 6:00 PM CET

Berlin, Germany

Estimated Price: €1,120 - €1,400

Description: Oil on canvasPresumably France, circa 1900After Jean-Antoine Watteau (1684 -1721) - French Rococo painterCopy after Watteau's original composition in the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh (1718 /19)Gilded stucco frameOverall dimensions, with frame: 51 x 45 cmGood conditionProvenance: German private collectionWatteau was a master of gallant scenes, which were widely spread through his printsThe present work derives from the painting 'Fêtes Vénitiennes' (1718/19) of the French Rococo painter Jean-Antoine Watteau (1684 -1721), now in the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh. The artist has painted the present version after a print of 1732. The seated musician is traditionally identified with a self-portrait of Watteau, while the dancer in the center is considered the mistress of the Duke of Orleans. Her dancing partner is Nicolas Vleughels, a Flemish painter and friend of Watteau. The painting is in good condition showing some wear marks. There a few parts with barely visible dents caused by the pressure of the stretcher. The gilt stucco frame is overall in good condition, showing some cracks and losses at the lower right. The overall dimensions, with frame, are 51 x 45 cm, and the stretcher measures 42 x 36 cm.Jean-Antoine Watteau (1684-1721)Jean-Antoine Watteau began his artistic education at the age of 10 with Jacques-Albert Gérin in Valenciennes. In 1702, the young artist moved to Paris, where he started working as a stage painter with Claude Gillot, and later as a decoration painter with Claude Audran, the custodian of the Galerie du Luxembourg. He was accepted at the Academy in 1708, and he became a member in 1717, after applying for it with his painting 'The Embarkation for Cythera' (now in the Louvre). Watteau is often considered the most important painter of the French Rococo and is known as the inventor of the 'Fêtes Galantes'. His works are on display in major museum collections, for example in the Louvre or Eremitage. Greater collections of his works can be found in Sanssouci castle in Potsdam, and in the Wallace Collection in London. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance. Nicolaes Eliaszoon Pickenoy, Manner of, Lady's Portrait, 19th C

Lot 90: Nicolaes Eliaszoon Pickenoy, Manner of, Lady's Portrait, 19th C

by Auctionata

August 28, 2014, 6:00 PM CET

Berlin, Germany

Estimated Price: €2,720 - €3,400

Description: Oil on panel Holland, late 19th century Manner of Nicolaes Eliaszoon Pickenoy (1588-1653) - Dutch painter of Flemish originPortrait of a young womanOverall dimensions: 94.5 x 66 cmGood conditionProvenance: Private collection, Germany The present painting epitomizes the Zeitgeist of historicism and the corresponding interest in costume portraitsThe present portrait of a young woman is the work of an artist active at the end of the 19th century. It is painted in the manner of the portraits by the Dutch painter Nicolaes Eliaszoon Pickenoy (1588-1653) and presumably commemorates the marriage of the sitter. Accordingly, it was most likely intended as a pendant. As it was common in such pairs of paintings, the young woman's three-quarter pose would have matched her husband's position: each would turn slightly toward the other, while facing the viewer. The painter meticulously rendered the details of his sitter's costumes, seen here in this carefully accurate portrait of a middle-class patron. The sitter is distinguished by her costume of rich black satin with a gold-embroidered bodice. Delicate white lace forms her elegant cuffs and headdress. An enormous, pleated collar surrounds her neck. She wears gold jewelry around her waist, neck and wrists. In her left hand she holds a rose as a symbol of purity. The panel is in good order and the varnish is dark. There are small areas of abrasions and a superficial split lower right. The paint surface has partially lifted and has been consolidated to the right lower corner. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered retouching to the background and light lines of restoration to the flesh tones. The fine details are still in good order and the impasto appears very fresh in the lighter pigments. The panel measures 94.5 x 66 cm. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.

Description: B - Medina, José Toribio.
