December 22, 2014, 8:00 PM EST

Milton, DE, USA

The pair of figurines are a gentleman and a lady in a pastoral setting riding horses. The English Staffordshire figurines are unmarked.

The pieces are in good condition, the gold is partially slightly rubbed. The pot shows tiny scratches in the brown glaze on one side. Height pot: 17 cm. Length of the plates: 37 cm. Overall of very good impression.Porcelain manufactory Richard Ginori The porcelain manufactory Richard Ginori was established in 1735 by the Italian politician and businessman Marchese Carlo Andrea Ginori (1702-1757) in Doccia near Florence and eventually merged with the industrialist Augustus Richard in the 19th century. During a diplomatic stay in Vienna, Ginori deepened his knowledge of the manufacture of the white gold, bringing 'arcanists' (chemists who knew how to produce porcelain, a well-kept secret at the time) and painters from the Viennese porcelain manufactory along to technically support the construction and setup of the manufactory. The company is considered, after the Meissen and Vienna manufactories, the third-oldest in Europe. (cru) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.

72 Piece Porcelain Service, Herend, around 1873

Lot 42: 72 Piece Porcelain Service, Herend, around 1873

by Auctionata

January 8, 2015, 6:00 PM CET

Berlin, Germany

Estimated Price: €7,200 - €9,000

Description: Hand painted porcelain Herend, Hungary, around 1873 Décor with fruit, mushrooms, insects Rocaille and ozier pattern Maker's mark on the underside Partially dated and numbered Each piece with individual decorations Fine gold edge Very good condition This 72 piece set was made by the Hungarian company Herend. It was made and hand painted in the 19th century. Each piece shows numerous fruits, mushrooms, buds and insects as well as a gold ribbon. In addition, each piece shows curved lines and a pattern along the edge. The edges either show an ozier pattern or a more curved rocaille pattern. The handles on the tureen and the round platter show floral decorations. The lid of the jug and sugar bowl have plastically crafted rose buds attached as nubs. There is a sliced lemon on the tureen. The cups are also decorated on the inner wall; the plates, platters and cups show three or four motifs on the back - mostly bugs. The pieces measure as follows: one jug with lid (height: 23 cm); one milk jug (height: 12 cm); two platters (37 x 29 cm ); one smaller platter (34 x 25 cm); one round platter with floral handles (diameter: 30 cm); one tureen with lid (height: 20-25); one saucière with saucer (height: 10 cm); one sugar bowl with lid (height: 9 cm ); one candlestick (height: 16 cm ); six cups (height: 6 cm) - one cup with wavy edge and different handle, fitting saucer; six saucers (diameter: 16.5 cm), seven deeper plates (diameter: 26 cm); ten flat dinner plates (diameter: 26 cm); four dinner plates (diameter 24.5 cm); three soup plates (diameter: 24 cm); three dessert plates (diameter: 24.5 cm); five desert plates (diameter: 19 cm); six desert plates (diameter: 20 cm); three praline plates (diameter: 8 cm); one small bowl (diameter: 9.5 cm); two bowls (diameter: 11 cm).The porcelain service is in good condition. It is a combination of a number of service sets. One cup and saucer do not match the others in shape, but match the décor. The painted decorations are in flawless condition. The gold edges are slightly abraded in a very few places. A floral ornament seems to have broken off from the handle of the milk jug; a petal has broken off from the rose on the sugar bowl. The plates all have a felt protector. Each piece is marked 'Herend Hungary'. Many pieces are additionally marked 'Handpainted' and show an impressed number. Some pieces show a year and edition number.Herend Porcelain Herend is the largest porcelain manufacturer in the world, with beautiful, producing designs of convincing elegance since its establishment in 1826. The porcelain is known worldwide for its very fine quality. The manufacturer has been in business for nearly two centuries and has received awards at world exhibitions. The company was bought numerous times by rulers and famous people. Today, the porcelain manufacturer is part of the World Cultural Heritage and the European Cultural Heritage. Traditions of craftsmanship and technical knowledge are of great importance at Herend. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
