Ghelen in Vienna, 1728 Large colored frontispiece 24 double-page engraved and colored maps as well as one a celestial chart and one world map Original brown leather cover with embossed title Dimensions: 55.5 x 33 cm Complete and with luminous colors A superb copy of Seutter's atlas with numerous maps in fine contemporary surface colorAt the beginning there is the ornate frontispiece, depicting a globe surmounted by a seated crowned female figure and surrounded by figural allegories, which preceded every atlas by Seutter, regardless of the different composition of the maps. It is followed by a prelude titled 'Einleitung zu dem so anmuthig- als nutzlichen Studio der Geographie'. Title: „ATLAS / NOVUS / INDICIBUS INSTRUCTUS, / Oder / Neuer mit Wort=Registern versehener / ATLAS, ..... „ The atlas contains a celestial map and a world map with two hemispheres and small globes, maps of the four continents (Europe, Asia, Africa and America) as well as total and partial maps of Portugal, Spain, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Great Britain, Scandinavia, Russia, Turkey, Morea (Greece), the Holy Land, Hungary, Bohemia, Poland, Prussia, Brandenburg, Italy, Switzerland and the Holy Roman Empire. The beautiful maps are printed on strong handmade paper, mainly with figural title cartouches and some with small insets of maps or views.The cover with rubbing and some losses, a restoration on the back. The pages partially with foxing, toned along the edges and marginal blemishes to some of the back pages. Some with creases and tears. Minor worm damage here and there as well as some water stains to the illustrations. Two maps are loose. The main directory is cut out, glued and annotated by hand. One index with a long ear (approx. 26 cm). Overall well preserved with fresh colors.
