The 1851 Navy has silver plated triggerguard and backstrap which are now tarnishing nicely with age, taking on a silvery and purple hue. Both arms are engraved in factory class B coverage in wonderful loose scroll and are further embellished with gold inlays, each with matching flush 24 karat gold serial numbers on the left side of the frame. Both guns feature flush gold wire bands at the muzzles and breeches with the Dragoon showing a chiseled-in-relief 24 karat gold inlay of the familiar Rampant Colt atop the globe. The 1851 Navy has a chiseled-in-relief 24 karat gold inlay of Sam Colt s coat of arms on its left recoil shield. Both are fitted with smooth two-piece antique ivory grips with gold Rampant Colt medallions, each with dark age crackling striations running vertically, they are as-new and unblemished. A full complement of accessories is included with the arms, each with an appropriate Colts patent powder flask, serial numbered to their respective firearms. There are two brass dual-cavity Colts patent bullet molds included, each also serial numbered to their respective revolver as are the blued nipple wrench combination tools and the blued Ely brothers percussion cap tins. This entire assemblage is cased in an oak presentation case which is lockable, oddly the key and key slot escutcheon are no longer present. The factory records are open , showing no recorded information for these two firearms but Leonard Francolini himself has written a letter of authentication verifying the fact that he did indeed engrave these arms when he was employed at Colts in the 70s and even included copies of the pulls from his workbook, that he did on each firearm after he had engraved them; he further states the casing is factory as well. These two are truly a very exceptional pair of Colt factory-engraved, matching serial numbered black powder revolvers stunningly embellished by this gifted man, worthy of the finest collection of engraved arms or fine Colt pistols.
