April 19, 2014, 10:00 AM PST

Los Angeles, CA, USA

Estimated Price: $600 - $800

Description: George III. (1738-1820) King of Great Britain and Ireland (1760-1820) during the America Revolution. Document signed ("George R") as King, 5pp, 14 x 9 1/2", Oct. 7, 1790, approving the salaries of the servants of "Their Royal Highnesses Princes William, Edward, Ernest Augustus and Adolphus" for the quarter ended in July. Listings are for two Governors, Gen. de Bude and Horace Hayes, five Preceptors, four Pages of the Backstairs, a Purveyor, maidservants for Princes William and Edward, a housekeeper, watchman, one captain, four clergymen, a pagesman, table decker, butler, and porter. An extraordinary look behind the scenes of the royal palace. Toning, else fine, with a very strong signature. At the time of this document, George, the oldest prince who would become George IV, was already married. When he died in 1830 with no surviving heirs, his brother William, named here, became William IV, but had no children with his wife so Edward's daughter, Victoria, became Queen and an entire era was named after her. Ernest, named here, became King of Hanover because of Salic Law, which barred women (therefore Victoria) from the succession. Adolphus was a field marshal during the Napoleonic Wars. The Arden Family Holdings of Beverly Hills. Estimated Value $600 - 800.

A Greek Kopis Short Sword from the Time of Alexander the Great

Lot 735: A Greek Kopis Short Sword from the Time of Alexander the Great

by Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles

April 19, 2014, 10:00 AM PST

Los Angeles, CA, USA

Estimated Price: $2,500 - $3,500

Description: A Greek Kopis Short Sword From the Time of Alexander the Great. Greek iron deepeeka falcata "kopis" sword, with a heavy single-edged blade widening towards the point, multiple fullers on both sides; the tang with several holes, retaining some of the bronze rivets that held the bone grip plates, now lacking. Restored with minor replacements. L. 14 1/8 in. (36 cm.).The Greek 'Kopis' short sword was perhaps the last line of defense for the ancient Greek warrior, be he cavalryman, infantryman or any soldier on the field of battle. Indeed Alexander the Great, perhaps the most famous and successful conqueror in history, preferred this weapon. Made for close-in combat, the kopis was designed to do what its Greek name 'koptus' implies: to cut. It was the ultimate fighting weapon and Alexander used it to conquer the known world when this fighting sword was produced circa 340 BC. This is the ultimate ancient killing machine built into a short sword capable of being used in man-to-man combat. With its wrap-around grip designed to keep the weapon in the warrior's hand, the kopis was typically 20 inches in length, with a sharpened concave blade like this. The kopis is depicted in ancient Greek vase paintings as being in a hero's hand, striking down the aggressor. The kopis was so successful as the weapon of choice that it made its way all across the Greek Isles and, much to the consternation of Alexander the Great, to his enemies, the Persians. This is an excellent example of one of the weapons used to conquer the known, ancient world. Rare; even the famous collection of Ancient Weapons collected by the late Axel Gutman did not have a Kopis sword. Ex Royal Athena Gallery, German collection, 5th-3rd century B.C. Estimated Value $2,500 - 3,500.

by Poster Auctions International, Inc

May 4, 2014, 11:00 AM EST

Estimated Price: $1,700 - $2,000

Description: Artist: DAVID KLEIN (1918-2005) Size: 25 x 40 in./63.5 x 101.6 cm Klein is best remembered for the dozens of destination advertisements he created for Trans World Airlines during the 1950s and '60s. Most of this poster output depicts famous landmarks in the abstract, a style that is widely attributed to his early work in watercolor. This poster, however, is a bit of a departure from his signature style, using bold squares of color and speckled star bursts to represent New York's Times Square. It is without a doubt the most celebrated image in his series for TWA.

May 24, 2014, 9:45 AM GMT

Estimated Price: £5 - £10

Description: STAR TREK - FIRESTORM. When a covert Elasian mining operation interferes with a Federation geological expedition, Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise are dispatched to mediate between the two parties. The Elasian Dohlman claims that the planet and its dilithium deposits are hers, but the geologists warn that if Rakatan Mons-- the galaxy's largest known stratovolcano-- should erupt while the Elasians are mining its flanks, no amount of dilithium will save them. While Uhura and a landing party strive to determine if the Dohlman's claims are true, Kirk struggles to keep the two sides from each other's throats, but that delicate standoff is shattered by the arrival of an Elasian armada and the eruption of Rakatan, which could well destroy everyone on both sides.

Cap then seeks out and confronts a leader of the gang, Bobo and his henchmen. After defeating them, Bobo leads Captain America to another gang leader: Big Thunder. After a brief confrontation, Big Thunder eventually forces Cap to stand down by showing that he has captured Kirsch and will kill him unless Cap does what he says. Big Thunder's plan is to bring some mobsters in to witness him defeating Cap a one-on-one fight. By defeating a superhero living legend, big Thunder's reputation and street credibility should rise considerably. Cap is to take a fall in order for Kirsch to live. During the fight, Cap knocks Thunder through a wall and into the open areas of Coney Park. Cap eventually swings up to where Kirsch is being held, disarms his captors, and punches out Big Thunder when he enters the room. When they see Big Thunder has been defeated, the mobsters flee. It's a happy ending for all and Jacob Kirsch is allowed to go home in peace.
