Description: 800 silver, glass, remains of gildingGermany, around 1920Peter Bruckmann & Söhne (1805-1973) - Silver factory in HeilbronnHallmarked on the side with the German 'Crescent Moon and Crown' the mark of purity '800' the maker's mark and the name of the jeweller 'Schleissner'Numbered '3096'Weight: 354.80 g.24 cm (height); 25 cm (diameter)This noble centrepiece is made of 800 silver and was made by Peter Bruckmann & Söhne in Heilbronn. It was sold by a jeweller by the name of Schleissner. The base of this centerpiece shows rich decorations and remains of rich gilding. The four legs support a wide, round foot with bull's eye frieze. The shaft is slim showing partial floral decorations and a removable glass plate with a star-shaped decoration; a marvellous eye catcher for any meal.This enticing epergne is in good condition; slight age-related signs of wear and use; slight chipping; scratches. It weighs 354.8 g. and it is hallmarked on the side with the German 'crescent moon and crown', the mark of purity '800' and the maker's mark as well as the jeweller's name 'Schleissner'. The centerpiece measures 24 cm (height); 25 cm (diameter). The glass plate also shows signs of wear; small chips and scratches.Peter Bruckmann & Söhne (1805-1973)The silverware factory Bruckmann was founded in 1805 by Georg Peter Bruckmann in Heilbronn. The company exhibited their produce at trade fairs in Frankfurt and Leipzig and soon gained recognition outside the region. In order to improve quality and support his employees, Georg Peter Bruckmann established a modelling and drawing school and campaigned for the standardisation of alloys and the legislative decree to protect designs and models. Under the leadership of the following generation, the company achieved numerous successes and was considered the largest and most modern silverware factory in Germany around the turn of the century. Description: Reverse glass paintingsBlack Forest or Alsace, Werkstatt Winterhalder, second half of the 19th CenturyFine painting with harmonious colours Allegories of Spring, Summer, Autumn and WinterDimensions, framed: 44.5 x 37 cmThese allegorical paintings show the portraits of four finely dressed women representing the four seasons. The respective season is mentioned underneath every portrait: 'Le Printemps' (Spring), 'L'Été' (Summer), 'L'Automne' (Autumn) and 'L'Hivere' (Winter). In the 19th Century reverse glass paintings were found in many a farmhouse parlour. They were very popular because the grime from the fireplace or stove could simply be wiped off without affecting the picture's condition.Three of the glass paintings are in good condition with light signs of age and use such as partial craquelure and minor colour loss. One of the glass sheets (Spring) shows cracks across the right part of the image. Framed the works measure 44.5 x 37 cm. The glass plates measure 26.5 x 34 cm each.
