Description: A rare and historically important Chinese Export porcelain "Order of the Cincinnati" plate circa 1785 The center painted with the hovering figure of "Fame" blowing her trumpet and holding aloft the beribboned badge of the Order of the Cincinnati, within a molded and scalloped rim decorated with blue and white Fitzhugh-type border. Diam: 9 5/8 in. PROVENANCE: Property from a Virginia Estate. Retains sticker to underside from Elinor Gordon, Villanova, Pennsylvania.

Condition Report: Large area of restoration to right rim with in-painting, approx. 6 in. in length from top to bottom and 2 in. from rim to cavetto. The restoration DOES NOT affect the central figure and badge. Restoration includes reglazing which has yellowed and the discoloration extends beyond the area of actual repair. The remainder of the plate fluoresces intense purple under UV light. Wear to enamel and gilt loss, the surface is lightly soiled, and firing flaws to well of the plate, including one approx. 3/8 in. in length about 1 1/4 in. to the right of the badge's bow.
