Amazing Carved petrified Fossil stone statue of Ankylosaurus

Lot 434: Amazing Carved petrified Fossil stone statue of Ankylosaurus

by Eternity Gallery

March 8, 2015, 2:00 PM EST

Tampa, FL, USA

Estimated Price: $100 - $500

Description: Amazing Carved petrified Fossil stone statue of Ankylosaurus Length: 4.25 inches = 10.7 cm; Weight: 154.57 g; Genuine carved petrified fossilized stone; Literature: Ankylosaurus (which means "fused lizard") is a genus of ankylosaurid dinosaur, containing one species, A. magniventris. Fossils of Ankylosaurus are found in geologic formations dating to the very end of the Cretaceous Period (between about 66.566 Ma ago) in western North America. Although a complete skeleton has not been discovered and several other dinosaurs are represented by more extensive fossil material, Ankylosaurus is often considered the archetypal armored dinosaur. Other ankylosaurids shared its well-known featuresthe heavily armored body and massive bony tail clubbut Ankylosaurus was the largest known member of the family. Ankylosaurus was a large animal by modern standards, estimated at lengths of 9 m (30 ft)[3] and weighing up to 6 tones (13,000 lb). However, following a significant re-description of the fossils in 2004, a much smaller size has been suggested, based on the largest known skull, at 64.5 cm (25.4 inches) long and 74.5 cm (29.3 inches) wide, the whole animal was estimated at 6.25 m (20.5 feet) long, 1.5 m (4.9 feet) wide and 1.7 m (5.6 feet) tall at the hip. The body shape was low-slung and quite wide. It was quadrupedal, with the hind limbs longer than the forelimbs. Although its feet are still unknown, comparisons with other ankylosaurs suggest Ankylosaurus probably had five toes on each foot. The skull was low and triangular in shape, wider than it was long. Like other ankylosaurs, Ankylosaurus was herbivorous, with small, leaf-shaped teeth suitable for cropping vegetation. These teeth were smaller, relative to the body size, than in any other ankylosaurid species. Ankylosaurus did not share the grinding tooth batteries of the contemporaneous ceratopsid and hadrosaurid dinosaurs, indicating that very little chewing occurred. Bones in the skull and other parts of the body were fused, increasing their strength.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1998, 2 bottles

Lot 2: Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1998, 2 bottles

by Skinner

2015

USA

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1998 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe u: into neck "A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, this wine represents only 34% of Lafite's total harvest. In a less than perfect Medoc vintage, it has been spectacular since birth, putting on more weight and flesh over the last year. This opaque purple-colored 1998 is close to perfection. The spectacular nose of lead pencil, smoky, mineral, and black currant fruit soars majestically from the glass. The wine is elegant yet profoundly rich, revealing the essence of Lafite's character. The tannin is sweet, and the wine is spectacularly layered yet never heavy. The finish is sweet, super-rich, yet impeccably balanced and long (50+ seconds). Anticipated maturity: 2007-2035. ' R. Parker for TWA, 98 pts. 04/01 2 bottles

Description: Chateau Palmer 2005 Margaux, 3eme Cru Classe "This spectacular offering should continue to improve, and may merit an even higher score after additional aging. Stunningly rich and powerful, the dark purple-tinged 2005 Palmer is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 7% Petit Verdot. Aromas of incense, burning embers, black currants, plums, licorice, and flowers are followed by a full-bodied Margaux with more weight and power even than its nearby first-growth rival, Chateau Margaux. The abundant acidity and tannins are beautifully coated by the wine's exceptional fruit extract and overall harmony and richness. It is so concentrated that one is hard pressed to find even a hint of new oak." R. Parker for TWA, 97 pts. 04/08 3 bottles

Of recent vintages, I think only the 2009 can give it a run for its money. A blend of 53% Merlot and 47% Cabernet Franc, the wine has a sweet nose of menthol, melted licorice, boysenberry, blueberry, and cassis. A broad wine with compelling purity, a layered texture, and sweet tannin, with hints of coffee and earth in the background, this is by far the best Cheval Blanc since 1990 and before 2009. Bright red fruits, flowers and licorice flow effortlessly from this mid-weight Riserva. The earliest signs of tertiary development begin to show with some time in the glass. Description: Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1995 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe u: high into neck "The 1995 Lafite-Rothschild (only one-third of the harvest made it into the final blend) is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Franc. The wine was showing spectacularly well when I tasted it in November, 1997. It exhibits a dark ruby purple color, and a sweet, powdered mineral, smoky, weedy cassis-scented nose. Beautiful sweetness of fruit is present in this medium-bodied, tightly-knit, but gloriously pure, well-delineated Lafite. The 1995 is not as powerful or as massive as the 1996, but it is beautifully made with outstanding credentials, in addition to remarkable promise." R. Parker for TWA, 95 pts. 02/98 1 bottle

Desirable Parker Bros. Model DHE SxS Shotgun

Lot 150: Desirable Parker Bros. Model DHE SxS Shotgun

by Carol Watson's Orange Coast Auctions

March 7, 2015, 10:00 AM PST

Irvine, CA, USA

Description: Desirable Parker Bros. Model DHE Side-by-Side Shotgun, #196168, 12 ga., 2-1/2'' chambers, blue finish 28'' Titanic Steel barrels with matted concave rib and single front silver bead, No. 2 frame, double triggers with 4-5 lb. letoff, automatic sliding top-tang safety, bores measure .715'' and .717'' with choke constrictions of .057'' and .003''. Mfg'd 1921. The factory ''D'' Grade game scenes and scroll engraving pattern are extremely fine and elegantly presented on the frame assembly, forend iron and skeleton buttplate. The straight-hand buttstock and forend are medium-figure honey toned walnut with 20 LPI checkering and a vacant silver oval on the toe line. Length of pull is 14'', drop at comb is 1-5/8'', drop at heel is 3'', weight is 7 lbs. 9 ozs. The production grade and dimensional features are confirmed in a letter dated May, 2010, from The Parker Gun Collectors Assoc., Inc. Indications are, during the 1920's, the gun was completely disassembled and all exposed metal surfaces, with the exception of the barrels, were chemically gold washed directly over the original case coloring in a style carried over from the Victorian era for presentation awards and display merchandise. Approx. 10% of the gilding remains in areas of minimal handling with faint traces of case coloring on the fringes of the gold; barrels have 95% blue with small areas of loss, oxidation and fine scratching near the muzzles along with one small handling impression; skeleton buttplate is 50% oxidized brown. Buttstock appears to have been removed and refinished periodically with additional applications of varnish. Extensive handling has caused scattered discolored indentations and rounding of the comb, side panel and drop-point edges; checkering is generally flattened with a small repair blended behind the top tang. Mechanical condition remains excellent with sound lockup and barrels tight on the face. Bores are bright and along with the face show only minimal signs of actual use, ejectors are strong and in time; one lower tang screw is replaced, the top tang and frame screws need reseating. A period leather Leg-O-Mutton case is included. An ideal candidate for a full or partial restoration. Est.: $4,000-$6,000. (C&R)

A RARE .577 PERCUSSION BREECH-LOADING CARBINE, MODEL 'LEETCH PATENT PISTOL-CARBINE', serial no. '9',

Lot 540: A RARE .577 PERCUSSION BREECH-LOADING CARBINE, MODEL 'LEETCH PATENT PISTOL-CARBINE', serial no. '9',

by Holt's Auctioneers

March 19, 2015, 10:00 AM GMT

London, United Kingdom

Estimated Price: £1,200 - £1,600

Description: A RARE .577 PERCUSSION BREECH-LOADING CARBINE, MODEL 'LEETCH PATENT PISTOL-CARBINE', serial no. '9', circa 1860 and possibly for trials, with round tapering 17 1/2in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, swivelling leaf rear-sight, shaped receiver with swing out reverse loading breech-block operating on an articulated chequered bolt, plain banana-shaped back-action lock, the side hammer with integral safety locking bolt, full chequered pistol-grip butt-stock (small chip at toe), iron furniture, chequered walnut splinter fore-end, London proofs Other Notes: James Leetch of 24 Margaret St. Cavendish, London first submitted his carbine design to the Board of Ordnance in 1854. Initially considered for an order, it was later rejected on the grounds of lack of manufacturing capacity, its place being taken by the American made Sharps. However, by 1859, demand for carbines was high and a company was set up to manufacture the Leetch design. The Breech Loading Gun Co was situated at 29 Marylebone St, London and had F. Robert Beasley as Secretary and Robert Scott as Manager. These later carbines differed from the original in having a solid butt-stock as opposed to a skeleton design. It is believed this is a trials pattern in that it has the large No. 9 stamped in the butt, commercial London proofs and complete absence of the address markings which are usually associated with later produced pieces

by Bibliopathos

March 24, 2015, 6:00 PM CET

Milano, Italy

Estimated Price: €1,500 - €2,000

Description: A MEDIEVAL FRAGMENT OF MACCABEES, ITALY ca. 1350Medieval fragment of Maccabees with commentary. [Italy, about 1350]. A fragment of a medieval Bible, containing the first book of Maccabees (chapther 2:42) with the commentary by Rabanus Maurus.Rabanus Maurus Magnentius (c. 780 - 856), also known as Hrabanus or Rhabanus, was a Frankish Benedictine monk, the archbishop of Mainz in Germany and a theologian. He was the author of the encyclopaedia De rerum naturis (On the Nature of Things). He also wrote treatises on education and grammar and commentaries on the Bible. He was one of the most prominent teachers and writers of the Carolingian age, and was called "Praeceptor Germaniae", or "the teacher of Germany". Rabanus' works, many of which remain unpublished, comprise Scriptural commentaries and various treatises relating to doctrinal and practical subjects, including more than one series of Homilies. In 2006, the 1150th anniversary of his death was celebrated in Germany, especially in Mainz and Fulda. One of the highlights of the celebrations was the display of Codex Vaticanus Reginensis latinus 124, an extremely rare loan by the Vatican to Mainz of a spectacular manuscript containing De laudibus sanctae crucis. The anniversary also saw the publication of no fewer than three book-length studies of Maurus and his work. References: The first nominally complete edition of the works of Hrabanus Maurus was that of Colvener (Cologne, 6 vols. fol., 1627). The Opera omnia form vols. cvii-cxii of Migne's Patrologiae cursus completus. The De universo is the subject of Compendium der Naturwissenschaften an der Schule zu Fulda im IX. Jahrhundert (Berlin, 1880).

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Chateau Pichon Lalande 2000 Pauillac, 2eme Cru Classe "Sitting next to my former colleague, Pierre Antoine Rovani, at one of the tastings, he commented that he didn't like the striking green note in the aromatics of this wine, which I didn't detect at all, and a subsequent bottle at another tasting did not reveal it either. I do think there is a hint of bay leaf and a meatiness to it. In short, I find this to be a spectacular Pichon Lalande. Dense purple in color, with loads of coffee, mocha, creme de cassis, and chocolate notes, this is a somewhat unusual blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and a whooping 10% Petit Verdot, with a little bit of Cabernet Franc. The Petit Verdot certainly gives the wine more of a tapenade, floral note, which I think can be interpreted by some as herbal. This is a rich, opulent, stunning Pichon Lalande that is beginning to drink beautifully, yet should continue to improve for at least another 10-15 years and last 30 or more years." R. Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Chateau Montrose 1989 St. Estephe, 2eme Cru Classe u: into neck "This was not in the tasting at the chateau, but I opened two bottles on my return home, because this is another near-perfect wine from Montrose. It is an unusual two-grade blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. The wine emerged from another very hot, sunny, dry growing season, with early, generous flowering. Harvest in Montrose took place between September 11 and 28. The wine has never had any issues with brett, making it a somewhat safer selection than the more irregular 1990. Like a tortoise, the 1989 has finally begun to rival and possibly eclipse its long-time younger sibling, the 1990. The wine is absolutely spectacular and in auction sells for a much lower premium than the 1990. That should change. This is a magnificent Montrose, showing notes of loamy soil undertones, intermixed with forest floor, blueberry and blackberry liqueur and spring flowers. It has a full-bodied, intense, concentrated mouthfeel that is every bit as majestic as the 1990, but possibly slightly fresher and more delineated. This great wine should drink well for another 40-50 years." R. Parker for TWA, 98+ pts. 08/14 1 bottle

Description: Fossil Petrified Gomphotherium black molar teeth, 10.6 cm, 13-3 million years Weight: 1 lb. 2oz = 500g; Size: 4.25 x 3 x 2.5 inches = 10.6 cm; Age: 13-3 millions of years BC; Gomphotherium ( "Welded Beast") is an extinct genus of proboscid which evolved in the Early Miocene of North America from 13.6503.6 Ma, living about 10 million years. The genus immigrated into Asia, Europe and Africa after a drop in sea level (probably during the Tortonian epoch) allowed them to cross over. It survived into the Pliocene, and its remains have been found in Chile, France, Germany, Austria, Kansas, Tennessee, Pakistan, Kenya and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Gomphotherium stood around 3 meters (9.8 ft.) high with an estimated weight of 4-5 tons, and bore a strong resemblance to a modern elephant. However, it had four tusks; two on the upper jaw and two on the elongated lower jaw. The lower tusks are parallel and shaped like a shovel and were probably used for digging up food from mud. Unlike modern elephants, the upper tusks were covered by a layer of enamel. Compared to elephants, the skull was more elongated and low, indicating that the animal had a short trunk, rather like a tapir's. These animals probably lived in swamps or near lakes, using their tusks to dig or scrape up aquatic vegetation. In comparison to earlier proboscids, Gomphotherium had far fewer molars; the remaining ones had high ridges to expand their grinding surface. Gomphotherium inhabited dry wooded regions near lakes. A complete skeleton of Gomphotherium has been found at Mühldorf, Germany, in 1971. Condition very good preservation, considering the age of millions of years; Low Estimate: 1500; High Estimate: 3000; Original: Yes;
