Antique 19TH CENTURY ENGLISH PASTORAL FIGURINE Collectables Staffordshire Bucolic Agrarian Early Ceramics Porcelain Pottery Dogs

by National Book Auctions

August 2, 2015, 12:00 PM EST

Ithaca, NY, USA

Estimated Price: $150 - $250

Description: Details: This lot consists of the Antique English Pastoral Figurine shown in the corresponding images. This historical figurine displays the classic pastoral style of the 19th century ceramics manufacturers from Staffordshire, England. This statue was part of a larger estate collection of similar figurines, several of which were marked with paper tags stating “Staffordshire” as the origin. This beautiful lady is clearly a dog lover. She stands on a grassy hill with a stream running along side. Likely taking a much needed break from chores, the sleeves of her eggplant colored shirt are rolled and the two toned brim of her sun hat is turned up. Her ankle length skirt has beautiful hand painted detail. She is nicely wedged between two large tree branches, which can be seen from the back. Also on the back is a banner with the word “Walton,” a ceramics manufacturer from the Staffordshire region. The handsome lady stands in front of a detailed foliage grouping, a traditional look for this type of Staffordshire figurine. This piece has lovely hand painted details and a thick coat of glaze that offers a pearlized patina. It sits fairly flat and has a hollow base that is also thoroughly glazed. This figurine stands 5.5” tall and is 4.75” at the widest point. To inspect and acquire more detailed information about this lot, please attend our live preview before the auction.Condition / Notes: This rare and lovely pastoral figurine is in very good condition with few visual flaws. Paint and glaze are uniform and in very good condition. There are two spots of excess glaze on the hat that are original to the piece. See photos. For lots which include only books, our shipping charge applies to any address within the fifty United States. For lots which are not books, the stated shipping cost in this listing will apply only to addresses within the continental 48 states. Within those parameters, the shipping cost for this lot will be: $6.50

2 Pcs. Antique 19th CENTURY CREAMWARE MUGS WITH HIDDEN FROG FIGURINE INSIDE Staffordshire Transferware Lusterware Frog Amphibian Earthenware Lead Glaze Transfer Printing Royal Navy England Tall Ships

by National Book Auctions

August 2, 2015, 12:00 PM EST

Ithaca, NY, USA

Estimated Price: $100 - $200

Description: Details: This lot consists of the Two (2) Antique 19th Century Staffordshire Creamware Mugs in the corresponding images. These lovely Creamware and Lusterware Mugs are from a large estate collection from which several pieces were marked Staffordshire. This region in England was known for their hand-painted Lusterware, and hand-painted transfer-prints, which feature designs, verses and mottos. The designs usually have local or topical relevance and often refer to seafaring. The larger, two-handled mug is a heavy and well-maintained Creamware piece. Each side of the cup has a raised design with enameling. One image depicts a hunting dog tracking a pheasant or some other type of game bird. The other side shows the dog with the bird in his mouth. The colorful glazes are exemplary of this era of Stafforshire, and are in very good condition with light age based wear. The big surprise is the large Creamware frog on the inside of the cup. This piece has light, age based crazing and a beautiful, vintage patina. The mug measures 5.5” tall and 8.25” wide with the handles. The Transferware mug is glazed with a lovely orange Lusterware glaze and has lovely hand detailing on the enamel transferred Tall Ship. Colors are exemplary for this era of Lusterware/Transferware and display little age based wear. Transferware words read, “Tho Malt and Venom seem united, Don’t break my Pot / Or be affrighted / For when it’s full / No spleen is seen / And when it’s empty / It’s quite clean.” The big surprise is the large Creamware frog on the inside of the cup. This piece has light, age based crazing and a beautiful, vintage patina. Mug measures 4” tall and 4” wide (5.5” with handle). To inspect and acquire more detailed information about this lot, please attend our live preview before the auction.Condition / Notes: These Creamware mugs are in overall good condition with some aged based wear. 5 Pcs. Antique ENGLISH DOG FIGURINE COLLECTION Collectables Early Ceramics Porcelain Pottery Royalty Gilt Dogs Spaniels Dalmatians Hunting

by National Book Auctions

August 2, 2015, 12:00 PM EST

Ithaca, NY, USA

Estimated Price: $70 - $200

Description: Details: This lot consists of the Large Single Antique Staffordshire Spaniel Figurine, the Dalmatian figurine, the Spaniel Carrying a Bird figurine, and the Twin Spaniel Figurines shown in the corresponding images. These historical figurines display the classic style of the 19th century ceramics manufacturers from Staffordshire, England. These figurines are part of a larger estate collection of which several had stamps indicating “Staffordshire” as the origin.Though a lonely single, this Large Spaniel Figurine is in good condition with a creamy white color and lovely gilt detail. The hand-painted eyes have the traditional “wide open” look. There is also hand painted detailing on the nose and mouth including whiskers and a red tongue, and on the paws including tiny toenails. The seam down the back indicates a press mold casting. Hole in the back of the piece was purposeful for releasing heat during firing. The piece is well glazed and has some age induced crazing. This piece stands 12” tall and approximately 10” wide. The Dalmatian has hand painted details including the traditional “wide open” eyes, red mouth and gold collar. Dalmatian “spots” are pleasingly inconsistent. Piece shows aged based crazing and also has some small fissures at the base. There is some glaze wear at the base on the back of the piece. See photos. The Spaniel Carrying a Bird figurine has an all over textured body with hand painted details including the traditional “wide open” eyes, and classic rusty brown color on ears, tail, and body. The Twin Spaniel figurines have lovely hand painted details including fur markings, gold collars and facial features. Both have interesting glazing marks and age based crazing throughout. The pieces are well glazed and are also glazed on the bottom. There is a small hole on bottom of figurine for heat escape during firing. The dog on the left has a chip of missing ceramic on back leg. This spot has been painted and glazed, indicating the chip is original to the piece. See photos for detail. To inspect and acquire more detailed information about this lot, please attend our live preview before the auction.Condition / Notes: These Antique English Dog Figurines are in good condition with some age wear and crazing.
