The vase dates shortly after the founding years of the manufactory and is listed in the old model books as the number 164. The vase immediately strikes by the very fine painting with antique-like figural scenes. Women and putti are presented in a gentle landscape. At the end of the 19th century, classicizing scenes on plates and vases were very popular and executed by the Potschappel porcelain painters with much skill. In addition to the paintings, the openwork décor on the neck and the cover is especially beautiful. The vase is marked with the underglaze blue mark depicting two crossed beams and a 'T' to the underside. It is in very good condition, showing minor wear. The total height is 31.5 cm.Sächsische Porzellan-Fabrik Carl Thieme zu PotschappelThe manufactory nearby Dresden was established in 1872 by Carl Thieme. The artists and workers in the manufactory create the porcelain by hand in the finest, most luxurious way possible referring to old designs. Also, the multitude of the designs speaks for the rich artistic tradition of the manufactory. In 1900, the manufactory took part in the Exposition Universelle (the world fair) in Paris. The manufactory is also well-known of its running glazes as well as its crystal glazes. Today, Dresden porcelains are on display in museums and part of many private collections. As well, they are popular collectibles at international auctions. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.

Ralf Kerbach, Oil on Canvas, Two Sisters, c. 1980/90s

Lot 63: Ralf Kerbach, Oil on Canvas, Two Sisters, c. 1980/90s

by Auctionata

January 27, 2015, 6:00 PM CET

Berlin, Germany

Estimated Price: €1,600 - €2,000

Description: Oil on canvas Germany, around 1980/90s Ralf Kerbach (b. 1956) - German painter Verso numbered '12' Dimensions: 51.5 x 61.5 cm Very good conditionProvenance: Private collection, GermanyRalf Kerbach is a well-known protagonist among the art scene in Dresden; the auction record for one of his paintings currently sets at around €9,000Ralf Kerbach's artistic output is deeply influenced by his personal experiences that bear witness to a childhood in the GDR, his emigration to West Berlin and the return to Dresden after the fall of the Wall. The 1980/90s, which were clearly determined by the feeling of change, encouraged Kerbach to develop a personal visual language, which shows neo-expressionist tendencies as well as traces of symbolism regarding his motifs. The present painting is a typical example of Kerbach's period of artistic upheaval and shows a portrait of two sisters exposed to the silhouette of a man on the far right side. The girls first seem to look at him with serious and telling expression, but then tend to lose themselves in the distance, that also addresses us, the viewers. A selection of the artist's most important works will be on display at the Städtische Galerie Dresden, from 7 February to 10 May 2015.The painting is in very good condition considering its age. The stretcher measures 51.5 x 61.5 cm. Ralf Kerbach (b. 1956)Born in Dresden, Ralf Kerbach studied at the local Academy of Fine Arts and attended the class of professor Gerhard Kettner, between 1977 and 1979. Kerbach has been active as a freelance artist, ever since. Besides, he was the co-founder of the punk band 'Zwischenmaschine'. In 1982 Kerbach was forced to move to West Berlin, especially due to unofficial journalistic engagements. Scholarships and a number of artistic tasks enabled Ralf Kerbach to work in Olevano in 1986/87, in Paris in 1988, in Val Quieres near Montpellier from 1988 to 1990, and finally in Brazil in1991. Since 1992 Kerbach has held his position as professor of painting and graphic arts at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Dresden. In 2010 he became a member of the Sächsische Akademie der Künste. The artist lives and works in Dresden and in Biesenthal near Berlin. (cbo) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance. Auctionata charges the resale rights tax pursuant to Section 26 of the German Copyright Act (UrhG) towards the buyer in case of the sale of an original work of art or photography prior to 70 years having lapsed since the death of their creator. Therefore, Auctionata charges when purchasing a good - if a protection as an original work of art or photography is given - starting from a hammer price of EUR 400 an additional amount, which is calculated according to Section 26 (2) German Copyright Act (UrhG) and which does not exceed the amount of EUR 12,500. Description: Oil on canvas Germany, around 1980/90s Ralf Kerbach (b. 1956) - German painter Dimensions: 50 x 132 cm Very good conditionProvenance: Private collection, GermanyRalf Kerbach is a well-known protagonist among the art scene in Dresden; the auction record for one of his paintings currently sets at around €9,000Ralf Kerbach's artistic output is deeply influenced by his personal experiences that bear witness to a childhood in the GDR, his emigration to West Berlin and the return to Dresden after the fall of the Wall. The 1980/90s, which were clearly determined by the feeling of change, encouraged Kerbach to develop a personal visual language, which shows neo-expressionist tendencies as well as traces of symbolism regarding his motifs. The present painting shows a still life of the artist, presumably dating to the 1980/90s. It reveals a rather unusual constellation of objects: a glass of water, an overthrown goblet of wine and a piece of paper inscribed with mysterious symbols. Kerbach seems to tell us a story, well prepared with metaphors and perhaps even accompanied by his portrait, which appears in profile on the far left side.A selection of the artist's most important works will be on display at the Städtische Galerie Dresden, from 7 February to 10 May 2015.The painting is in very good condition considering its age. Wolfenbüttel, Germany

Estimated Price: €800 - €2,500

Description: Zittau, Actie Lit. B 25 Thaler 31.12.1847 (Auflage 20000, R 8).Minimale Randschäden fachgerecht restauriert. VF+ #948.
