U.S. Springfield M1C Garand Sniper Style with M82 Sniper Scope

Lot 3477: U.S. Springfield M1C Garand Sniper Style with M82 Sniper Scope

by Rock Island Auction Company

April 26, 2015, 9:00 AM CST

Rock Island, IL, USA

Estimated Price: $6,500 - $8,500

Description: U.S. Springfield M1C Garand Sniper Style with M82 Sniper Scope This is an example of a U.S. Springfield Armory M1C sniper rifle with M82 Telescopic Sight, "K-Line" russet leather cheek piece and WWII canvas sling. The M1C style sniper rifles were originally developed in mid-late 1944 and were also used in Korea by both the U.S. Army and USMC. This late WWII rifle was overhauled during the Korean Conflict and currently has it's original WWII barrel marked: "SA-4-45" along with the late war Type III rear sight, unmodified operating rod marked: "D35382-9-SA", an earlier bolt marked "D28287-2-SA", trigger housing marked "D28290-18-SA", stamped trigger guard and wide base gas cylinder. The scope base/bracket (only) is matching to the rifle and is correctly numbered on the underside "3653790". This rifle has an original WWII all blue G&H mount that has the Griffin & Howe markings on top, numbered "3717277" on the back side. The mount is fitted with an original all blue M82 telescopic sight. This was one of the original WWII scopes issued with this style of sniper rifle. The M82 telescopic sight has the correct post reticle and is roll-stamped in three lines on the left side "TELESCOPE M82/SERIAL NO. 36691/STOCK NO. 84374". The telescope is complete with the rubber eyepiece, sliding sun shade and windage and elevation knob covers with part numbers on the top. The russet leather lace-on cheekpiece is an original late WWII version originally issued with this type of rifle and is marked on top "K-Line", who was the WWII manufacturer. The rifle is fitted with an original WWII stock that is stamped on the left side with a late WWII boxed "S.A./N.F.R./Crossed Cannon" cartouche, circled "P" firing proof on the pistol grip and a large rack number "139" stamped on the right side. It is complete with a GI cleaning rod set, plastic oiler and grease pot in the butt trap compartment. Manufacturer: Springfield Armory U.S. Model: M1C BBL: 24 inch round Stock: walnut Gauge: 30-06 Finish: parkerized Grips: Serial Number: 3653790 Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun Condition: Near mint as professionally refinished with 99% of the arsenal refurbished parkerized finish overall. The stock and hand guards are fine with nice clear sharp cartouches and proofs, and a nice medium brown matching color on the hand guards and stock. The leather cheekpiece is also excellent. The M82 scope and G&H mount both retain 98% plus of their original blue finish, with some minor spotting/freckling of the finish on the front sun shield. The markings and optics are clear and sharp. An excellent example of a very desirable WWII M1 sniper rifle.

Desirable World War II German Fully Automatic Class III (

Lot 1587: Desirable World War II German Fully Automatic Class III ("bnz") Code MP40 Submachine Gun Manufactured by Steyr

by Rock Island Auction Company

April 25, 2015, 9:00 AM CST

Rock Island, IL, USA

Estimated Price: $9,500 - $16,000

Description: Desirable World War II German Fully Automatic Class III ("bnz") Code MP40 Submachine Gun Manufactured by Steyr This is a restored example of a matching WWII German MP40 Submachine gun as used by all German forces. These MP40 SMGs were highly prized as war trophies even during WWII and are even more desirable today and are probably the most sought-after WWII SMGs. They are termed a Machine Pistol, hence the "MP" model designation in MP-40, but they are still a true fully automatic submachine gun, firing from an open bolt using the 9mm Parabellum cartridge. They were produced by three primary factories; Erma-Werkes, Haenel and Steyr, with this example produced by the Steyr factory in 1940. They were an excellent wartime machine gun that utilized steel stampings combined with limited machined parts to increase manufacturing speed and reduce time and cost. The top of the rear receiver end cap is stamped with: "MP40/bnz/40". The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number "5828k" with the appropriate "WaA623" Waffenamts on the various parts. It has the dark red lower receiver cover with the dark brown, bakelite grips. The trigger group, folding buttstock, barrel nut, bolt, firing pin and rear sight are all correctly serial numbered and matching to the receiver. The resting bar is a post war stamped replacement parts, but looks correct on the weapon. This MP40 is complete with an extra post WWII complete bolt and telescoping recoil spring assembly. The bolt is the later version with the fixed firing pin in the bolt. This desirable SMG does not include any magazines. Manufacturer: German Model: MP 40 BBL: 9.5 inch round Stock: Gauge: 9 mm parabellum Finish: blue Grips: brown plastic Serial Number: 5828k Class: Class III Condition: Very fine as professionally reblued with clear markings and proofs on all the various parts. The lower receiver cover and grip are in fine condition with nice color. A very nice looking fully functional WWII German MP40 submachine gun NOTE: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), Fully Automatic Weapon that is currently registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (BATF&E) that has been classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11.These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.

Extremely Rare Chinese Sugiura Shiki Semi-Automatic Pistol with Matching Magazine

Lot 1477: Extremely Rare Chinese Sugiura Shiki Semi-Automatic Pistol with Matching Magazine

by Rock Island Auction Company

April 25, 2015, 9:00 AM CST

Rock Island, IL, USA

Estimated Price: $3,000 - $5,000

Description: Extremely Rare Chinese Sugiura Shiki Semi-Automatic Pistol with Matching Magazine Manufactured in China, factual data about the "Sugiura Type" pistol is hard to come by, however it is suggested that they were produced in late WWII by the Japanese in mainland China and immediately after the Japanese surrender, the Chinese took over and continued to produce these on a limited basis. Most likely the area of manufacture was occupied Manchuria/Manchukuo. A total number that were manufactured is unknown, and very few have made their way to American shores, with estimates suggesting less than 20 are on the private market. This pistol is equipped with fixed sights, a serrated oval safety/slide catch, and matching serial numbers on the slide, frame and magazine. Aside from a small 5-pointed star stamp on the left rear side of the slide, no makers marks are present, suggesting late/post-War manufacture. Manufacturer: Japanese Model: Sugiura Shiki BBL: 4 1/4 inch round Stock: Gauge: 7.65 mm auto Finish: blue Grips: hardwood Serial Number: 4248 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Very good, with 30% plus of the original blue finish remaining, showing a brown patina concentrated on eh slide, scattered spotting and mild dings. The grips are very good, with a few scuffs and dents overall and a loose screw on the right panel. Mechanically very good.

World War I Imperial German 1917 Dated DWM Artillery Luger Pistol with Rare Original Detachable

Lot 3369: World War I Imperial German 1917 Dated DWM Artillery Luger Pistol with Rare Original Detachable "Radium" Night Sights, Artillery Length 4mm Barrel Insert and 4mm Cleaning Rod

by Rock Island Auction Company

April 26, 2015, 9:00 AM CST

Rock Island, IL, USA

Estimated Price: $8,000 - $12,000

Description: World War I Imperial German 1917 Dated DWM Artillery Luger Pistol with Rare Original Detachable "Radium" Night Sights, Artillery Length 4mm Barrel Insert and 4mm Cleaning Rod This is an exceptionally nice example of a late WWI 1917 dated DWM Artillery Luger pistol that is accompanied with an ultra rare set of original WWI developmental/prototype "Radium" clip-on night sights. A similar set of sights is pictured on page 254 of the book "Luger Holsters and Accessories" by Bender. These sights were intended to improve the ability to engage targets at night and have also been seen on various configurations of GEW sniper rifles. The unique aspect of this example is that it contains the detachable "rear sight" set, which is usually missing as they can fall off easily. As shown, the front sight is secured by a small band with lock screw that fits around the barrel and contains a small circular vial of Radium (which has depleted over the years). The rear sight aperture is made up of two sheet metal stampings that also contain some kind of luminous material that is seen through a small slit, mounted on each side of the rear sight aperture. This rear sight attachment is held on by two small locking screws that impinge on the rear sight. The artillery Luger is dated 1917 over the chamber area with the "DWM" monogram on the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension has the "Crown/Gothic letter" military acceptance proofs next to the "Imperial Eagle" firing proof. These same proofs are also on the side and underside of the barrel. This Luger is numbered in the military style with the full serial number on the major parts and the last two digits of the serial number on the various small parts. The extractor and safety are correctly marked, and it has the standard front sight with the artillery style tangent rear sight that is graduated from 1-8 (100-800) meters. The Luger is complete with one nickel plated magazine with matching numbered wooden base marked "2162/n/+". Also in this lot is an original, and fairly rare, Artillery length, 4mm barrel insert, that includes an original 4mm, Artillery length cleaning rod for the barrel insert. An exact same type of device is also shown on page 323 of the same book referenced above. Manufacturer: DWM Model: 1914 Artillery BBL: 8 inch round Stock: Gauge: 9 mm Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 2162n Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Very fine with 95% plus original blue finish overall with some minor touch up present on the center section of the barrel and some minor pitting underneath the blue finish. The small parts retain 65% of the original straw colors which are fading with age. The grips are in excellent condition with nice sharp checkering on both sides showing light wear. The unique/rare night sight apertures are both in excellent condition, (although, both probably have lost their ability to glow in the dark due to their age) are complete and intact and correctly fit on the Luger barrel and rear sight. The additional Artillery length barrel insert is in excellent condition with the original bright polished outside with an excellent bore. A very nice lot with an excellent Artillery Luger pistol with all matching numbers to include the magazine, the rare/unique developmental or prototype Radium sights and the additional barrel insert.
