Tokyo Arsenal Model 1902 Grandpa Nambu Semi-Automatic Pistol, Serial Number

by Rock Island Auction Company

September 12, 2015, 9:00 AM CST

Rock Island, IL, USA

Estimated Price: $6,500 - $11,000

Description: Tokyo Arsenal Model 1902 Grandpa Nambu Semi-Automatic Pistol, Serial Number "82", with Shoulder Stock Manufactured at the Tokyo Artillery Arsenal, Grandpa Nambu #82 is the fourteenth lowest recorded number in Derby's "Hand Cannons of Imperial Japan". The forerunner of the Type 14 Nambu that would be Imperial Japan's standard sidearm through World War II, the Model 1902 took heavy inspiration from the Mauser 1896 Broomhandle, and went one better in its version of the stock holster by introducing a telescoping steel arm for the mounting lug, and a steel back plate for quick-detach shoulder and hip belts (not included) instead of Mauser's labor and material expensive leather harness. Each stock was made by hand and individually fitted to its assigned pistol with such exact tolerances that a different Grandpa Nambu can not be mounted on the lug, or even holster in some cases, without alterations being made to the metal and wood of the holster. As many users preferred an optional leather holster, most of these pistols have become separated from their stocks. Blade front and tangent rear sights, with the Tokyo Arsenal "stacked cannonballs" proof on the chamber and 3-symbol nomenclature on the right side above the "82" serial number, which is repeated on multiple components, including the finely checkered grips and nickel bodied magazine. The modern reproduction stock is fine cherry-wood construction with blued steel hardware stamped "82" on the back plate, latch hardware and collar with a slot for the included cleaning rod in the interior. Manufacturer: Japanese State Military Weapons Model: Grandpa Nambu BBL: 4 3/4 inch round Stock: Gauge: 8 mm Nambu Finish: blue Grips: checkered hardwood Serial Number: 82 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Fine as restored with 85% of the rust blue finish showing some light handling marks overall, bright wear along the edges and around the stock slot, and minor spotting. Two small divots are visible in the milled panel on the right side of the frame, likely a factory machining error. Bright refurbished colors are present on the straw finished parts, especially the sear and bolt hardware. A small crack is present in the magazine base, as well as a few in the finely made professionally made shoulder stock, which is otherwise in good condition. Mechanically fine.

Extremely Rare Japanese/Chinese Sugiura Shiki Semi-Automatic Pistol with Matching Magazine and Holster

by Rock Island Auction Company

September 13, 2015, 9:00 AM CST

Rock Island, IL, USA

Estimated Price: $6,500 - $9,000

Description: Extremely Rare Japanese/Chinese Sugiura Shiki Semi-Automatic Pistol with Matching Magazine and Holster Manufactured in China, factual data about the "Sugiura Type" pistol is hard to come by, but it is suggested that they were produced in late WWII by the Japanese in mainland China, likely the Manchurian occupation zone, and continued to be produced after the Japanese were driven out. A total number that were manufactured is unknown, and very few have made their way to the American market. This pistol is equipped with fixed sights, a serrated oval safety/slide catch, and matching serial numbers on the slide, frame and magazine. A set of "5-pointed star" markings are stamped on the left side of the slide and frame along with a hand-scratched "R.D./12-21-64". With a brown leather Japanese-style flap holster. Manufacturer: Japanese Model: Sugiura Shiki BBL: 4 inch round Stock: Gauge: 7.65 mm auto Finish: blue Grips: mahogany Serial Number: 5312 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Very fine with 95% of the original blue finish overall showing some light edge wear and handling marks overall. A series of dings are visible along many of the edges and curves, which are believed to be guide marks left over from the machining process. Grips are very fine with a few light scuffs, and the holster is fine but a bit undersized for the pistol. Mechanically excellent.

Scarce Early Production Erfurt Model 1914 Artillery Luger Semi-Automatic Serial Number

by Rock Island Auction Company

September 12, 2015, 9:00 AM CST

Rock Island, IL, USA

Estimated Price: $2,000 - $3,500

Description: Scarce Early Production Erfurt Model 1914 Artillery Luger Semi-Automatic Serial Number "53" This is a very good example of a early two digit serial number WWI Crown/Erfurt Artillery Luger dated 1914 dated with a very low serial number of "53" and WWI unit markings on the rear grip strap. These early Erfurt Artillery Lugers have always been difficult to find as they all saw significant harsh service use during WWI and most were later rebuilt or altered under the Versailles Treaty. The chamber is dated 1914, and the front toggle has the "Crown/ERFURT" markings. The right side of the barrel extension has the Imperial Army "Crown/Gothic" letter proofs and Imperial Eagle firing proof. The Imperial Eagle firing proof and Crown/Script letter proof is also repeated on the right and left breech end of the barrel respectively. The Erfurt "Crown/Script" letter proof is stamped on the left side of the barrel and the rear toggle, with many of the parts also stamped with a single "Crown/Gothic" letter proofmark as used by the Erfurt Arsenal. This example is fitted with the early style front and rear Artillery tangent rear sight graduated to 1-8, (100-800 meters); with both sights having the very desirable "fine-tune" adjustments usually on found on the early Artillery Lugers. The rear grip strap is marked "F.F.A./41.15.", indicating it was weapon number 15 and belonged to the 41st Foot Artillery Battalion. This Luger is complete with one tin plated magazine with a unmarked wooden base. It has the rust blued finish with straw colored smaller parts. Manufacturer: Erfurt Model: 1914 BBL: 8 inch round Stock: Gauge: 9 mm Luger Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 53 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Fine as partially refinished with 75% of its original blue with the barrel and right side of the barrel extension having been refinished. The lower frame and grip straps appear to be all original. The smaller parts retain 90% of their straw colors showing wear/fading on the edges. The grips are fine condition with nice visible checkering overall with better checkering and less wear on the right side and slightly more wear on the left side, which also shows several small nicks/light pressure dents. This early Luger has matching numbers except the magazine as noted. A good, solid, and very early example of a Model 1914 Erfurt Artillery Luger pistol.
