Description: JAMES SHARPLES (American, 1751-1811) "A Pair of Portraits - Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Corre", pastels on paper, c.1790, labels of Kennedy & Co. Rare Prints, New York, each 9x7in. Joseph Corre was born in Montpelier France on May 26, 1748 and died in New York on August 14, 1823 at age 75. Barbara Baker married Joseph Corre on June 15, 1777 at age 18. She died in New York City April 4, 1845 at age 86. She and her husband had 11 children. The 10th child Cornelia (November 5, 1797) married Charles Bostwick April 22, 1822.
