Description: inscribed and dated l.l.: Mewslade 1888.

Notes: In 1888 Brett was building a new house, Daisyfield, near Putney Heath, and did not travel to the coast. Instead he painted from pencil sketches made in previous years. His pocket diary entry for 22 August that year reads: 'Begun study of Mewslade." The pencil sketch had been made the year before on the Gower. Mewslade Bay is at the extreme west end of the Gower, near Worms Head.
