Description: DECORATED CHIPPENDALE BLANKET CHEST.
Pennsylvania or Virginia, dated 1791, pine and poplar. Dovetailed case, three drawers, and bracket feet. Original paint consists of three painted tombstone panels with vases of flowers with "ML KB" and "1791". 27"h. 50"w. 22"d. Sold at Garth's, March 2011, lot 163.

The decoration is similar to that done by the Rank family in Dauphin (now Lebanon) County, Pennsylvania, as well as the work done by Pennsylvania-German immigrant craftsmen working in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Condition Report: Some paint loss, the stem of the flowers have raised paint with good age. one back foot has replaced glue blocks and supports.
