Letter to an unidentified gentleman. In part: "My footman had just left and I am anxious to fill his place as soon as possible. A young man D. S. Holmes has shown me a good character from your Son, dated Feby 1886 which he says is a mistake for 1887. Can you recommend him and is this...the truth. I am sorry to trouble you but I have no other means of ascertaining anything about him." On the second page, Millais adds "PS. I believe my wife has engaged him on trial." In fine condition, with central horizontal and vertical mailing folds, and a few light creases and wrinkles.
